Healthy actions are habits that you can create for yourself by implementing the appropriate steps. Yes, we understand it’s the New Year and it seems cliché to do something NEW. Guess what? Your “health” isn’t new, and many are just becoming more aware of it based on the year 2020. Remember the Verizon commercials where the character would ask, “Can You Hear Me Now?” Your health does the same thing when you are living in a subluxated state. A subluxation is a misalignment within the spinal column, creating interference between the brain and body communication, thus altering your body’s ability to adapt to the external environment. One cannot function at an optimal potential when living in a subluxated state. Specific adjustments eliminate the interference and enable the body to communicate effectively . Your body begins to tell your brain “Can You Hear US now”! You become more aware of what is happening, as well as becoming in proper tune with your surroundings. When addressing health, look to the spine first and foremost. If you want to create new habits such as exercise and diet, yes those are fundamental truths that work. However, don’t forget your “healthcare” stems from the beginning which created all, which is the central nerve system. The expression of your central nerve system is your healthcare. “A habit is the very tiny evolutionary beginning of an instinct, and it is easy to understand that an instinct is not easily changed.”- Stephenson. “Symptoms can then serve as a warning or a message that something needs to be explored or changed in one’s life. And because illness is a message, if we treat only its physical manifestations, it can linger on or recur until the message is heeded.”-Dennis T. Jaffe, Ph.D |
Trust. Such an interesting word that we have a tendency to throw around without any merit or justification behind it. There are fundamental “Trusts” that we accept at a very young age, such as trusting our parents to look after us when we are young and developing. However, it seems the older we become, the less often we actually truly trust people. Now throw in the phrase, “Trust Me I’m A Doctor..” and hopefully your eyebrows will begin to rise up.
When our office meets a new patient, we often hear, “I dont trust doctors.” It’s a true statement that has validity. Just because someone has a title or letters after their name does not justify that trust should automatically be implied. Just as if someone holding office wants to be trusted, it does not mean that trust is automatically implied.
Trust is defiantly earned through relationships. Here at Basler Family Chiropractic we get to EARN your trust. We believe in the patient centered model, which purpose is to educate and inform so that you are the “informed consumer”.
What are we informing you of? Health care. We believe and know that health is given to all and exists primarily through the central nerve system (CNS). As Gonstead Chiropractors we assume the responsibility of allowing your CNS to function free of interference allowing your brain and body to be at its ideal environment to adapt to the stressors that you place upon it.
We earn your trust by providing you and your family with healthy results that last a lifetime. Free of drugs, surgery, or any other invasive entity that is external and foreign to the body. If you are looking for purity in the human body trust in your body’s innate wisdom by keeping your CNS free of any interference.
Here we go again! Burnout happens for numerous reasons, often being associated with boredom and even insanity. And when it comes to our health, there is an entire INDUSTRY designed to make us believe it has our best interests in mind. Yet by now most of us realize their real belief is profit.
Too often third parties will influence government to make some of these healthier “fads” a nation wide priority (I will not talk about drugs and pharmaceuticals right now). Consider the “Low Fat Diet.” This message started in the 1960’s. Gaining steam and momentum by the 1980’s, it was heavily endorsed by physicians, the Federal Government, the food industry, and media.
Skip the burnout effect of trying the newest and latest. Do what works. Do what science has validated through trials, cohort studies, controlled trials, etc….EVIDENCE. Specifically, evidence that was presented years ago and can be challenged today. Some still hold merit and validity while others don’t. Here are two examples:
- From the 1930s to the 1950s one of the most powerful phrases one could hear is “doctor recommend” when it came to SMOKING. Obviously any research today completely disengages any study that was performed. This equates to no validity by today’s standards.
- In 1993 Ontario Ministry of Health In Canada commissioned a study that looked at the effectiveness and cost efficiency of Chiropractic care for low back pain (Manga, et al. 1993). It concluded that Chiropractic service is the most cost effective option and that Chiropractic services should be fully insured under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan. This still holds merit in today’s society, which equates to still having validity!
Chiropractic care is the study of health and what causes people to BE and continue to BE healthy. Prevention. Think how cool this is. Every single time you receive an adjustment to a subluxation within the spinal column your brain becomes enhanced, thusly performing better. Take for instance the cerebellum, which is a central integrator for all SENSORY information which is vital for fine tuned coordinated movements, speech, breathing…get the point?
You don’t need to go to the Chiropractor to find out that exercise and diet are important. When a physical problem arises, a physical solution is needed. This is why Chiropractic emphasizes the action of preventative steps to keep and sustain your health long-term.
Consider the source. Always try to do your homework regarding the source of any information. This is especially crucial in current times. On the other hand, self thinking people who exercise critical thought may sometimes need guidance. Some would say that we are born with two things: our names and our health. What we do with them is up to the choices we make and the encounters that shape them.
We have been led to believe that health can be bought. It’s something that only certain people can acquire. Obviously false! Yet this concept has been branded in more minds than we can count. If you have been led astray with health propaganda and the growing commerce behind it, get off that bus!
Buying health is like the Diderot Effect. We jump from one diet to the next, promising us a new brand of green tea because we saw a flashy post on someone’s Twitter account about “fast results.” The Diderot Effect is such that obtaining a new possession often creates a spiral of consumption which leads one to acquire new things. And when these latest fads don’t work, just take some pills!
Chiropractic states that our focus is the study of health and what causes people to live functionally without limitations. Being healthy can be addictive; we often take our good health for granted. When it rains five days in a row, it’s easy to look forward to the sun and complain about the rain. Similarly, when our body is in a dysfunctional state it’s easy to talk about what we “used” to be like while complaining about the pain.
A major emphasis with Chiropractic is a preventional lifestyle. If you are taking care of your Central Nerve System (CNS) you will have more “Sunnier Days.” How? True health care begins by taking care of your CNS. A CNS that is free of vertebral subluxations is allowed to flourish and keep the normal state of health present and continued therefrom. The CNS controls your every human experience you have.
So jump on this bus! Good health shouldn’t be complicated. A spinal check-up here, a spinal check-up there. So please don’t get caught up in the “Diderot Effect Of Fake Health.”
When it comes to the human body and the process of healing, we know that things have to take TIME. If you do not take the time to adequately heal then you never will “get betta”! Something that does not take time will be a waste of time, even more so when dealing with the framework of the human body.
Healing is a process that is interlaced and conducted via the central nerve system (CNS). Think of the CNS as the conduit or inter highway system that made every part of you and sustains that function on a daily basis. When a spinal nerve is impeded (due to a subluxation) of the flow of intelligence it is supposed to supply to the tissue cell it becomes adequately less than it should be. As a result, the body over TIME enters into a state of dis-ease because there is interference with the transmission of the body producing adaptive forces to keep you healthy! We understand that healing is generated through the smallest part of the makeup of the body, the tissue cell.
Did you know that tissue cells have a nerve supply? They must or we would cease to exist. We have a general understanding that cells take time and each one varies to regenerate based on our body’s needs. We have a general understanding of the “time frame” yet everyone’s resistance or needs tend to differ. For example, we know that bone cells take 8+ years to complete a cycle, red blood cells live for approximately 120 days, skin cells approximately 30 days, etc, etc. Notice the time frame.
When you begin the process of healing you must take it minute to minute, day to day, week to week, and so on. Small minor improvements will continue to increase when you take the TIME to do it right. Always have hope and keep the steady climb!
While the phrase “out of sight, out of mind” works for some aspects of life that you would like to change, when it comes to taking care of your overall health, this phrase does not apply. The reason being, is that your spinal column protects the most important part of your body, the central nerve system (CNS). The CNS was not designed to be seen, unlike our teeth. It is exactly where it is supposed to be; central. Your health begins and ends within your spinal column. We take for granted our health often because we cannot see. Out of sight…out of mind comes into play.
If your spine were on your face, you’d take better care of it, guaranteed. How come? Most people have to see a problem to believe a problem exists. Believe this. You live your life through your CNS, every human experience you have is processed, coordinated, and controlled via your CNS. Take care of it. Taking care of the problem before the problem begins enters in the world of prevention.
Gonstead Chiropractic analysis allows a closer look at the story of your spine. Out of sight does not apply to us. To see is to know and not to see is to guess. X-Ray films, when necessary, allow our doctors to visualize the entire structure of your spine, joint and disc integrity, and ruling out any pathological findings. This allows us to be as specific as possible and eliminate all guessing when it comes to your care.
Don’t take for granted the most important thing you were born with…your health. Own your health, and start with spinal check-ups. Just because you cannot see your health does not make it an entity that cannot be measured. Keeping your body in peak performance is what Gonstead Chiropractors do. We help you prevent health problems and keep you functioning at your best.
Brush your spine ever? Hopefully not. Just a simple analogy to further educate the importance of active spinal care. Think of when a tooth begins to hurt and produces symptoms of a cavity. Just because the pain started today does not mean that the problem just ‘showed up.’ If you neglect your teeth they will not only show it from an appearance stand point, yet also from a dysfunctional problem when tooth problems begin. If you do not take care of your teeth they have a tendency to fall out…bummer. If you do not take care of you central nerve system health problems begin to arise.
Your spine protects the most important structure in the entire body: the central nerve system. Regular chiropractic check-ups prevent the spine from breaking down and creating subluxations (misalignment within the spinal column placing undo stress upon the central nerve system). Believe it or not the spine and central nerve system are vastly more important than your teeth. Just because you cannot physically see your spine like your teeth, does not mean that it’s less important. On the contrary. There is a reason the central nerve system is protected by ‘spinal bones’. To protect!
The ‘breaking down’of the spine exists through subluxations. When you do not maintain spinal hygiene the body is not able to properly adapt which increases your susceptibility of subluxations, spinal decay, and health problems which ensue with improper communication between the brain and body. Subluxations are the physical representation of symptoms. It’s not that a symptom is a subluxation: sublxuations produce symptoms due to the distortion of a spinal bone, placing undo stress upon a single nerve fiber thus creating a state of dis-ease within the nerve system. As a result, tissue cells that the nerve controls will not become adequately supplied and functioning at 100%. Subsequently, health problems manifest.
You don’t have to ‘brush your spine’ to be healthy. You just need to take care of the things that matter most. A healthy inside results in a healthy body on the outside.
Stop the insanity. Expecting the same results over and over again is not an ideal situation to be in. When it comes to your health, there will always be the latest and greatest health trend to emerge and last for a short while. Why? Often times, the things that are the hardest and yet simplest to perform, are overlooked by public interest growing a new trend. When it comes to your health, the foundation starts and ends with the central nerve system.
A teacher and a student were walking along a riverbank talking about life. When both of them noticed someone in the river drowning. The student immediately jumped in to save the drowning individual and pull them to safety. As the teacher and student continued their walk they noticed another person in the river drowning, once again the student jumps in to save the person and pull them to safety. As they continued their walk this event continued to happen and finally the teacher kept walking to find the cause. The teacher, instead of saving the drowning individuals, searched for the cause and found that these people were jumping off a bridge.
This is a simple story to gain insight on addressing the cause instead of performing the same actions over and over with little to no results. Rescuing drowning people is a noble quest, yet addressing the cause and educating before they jump is even more noteworthy.
Everyone should know something about the spine which protects your central nerve system. That knowledge would give all people a much better understanding of one of the marvels of the body. It would enable each individual to reason the “how and why” of ill health. When it is understood that every tissue cell, and every organ of the body is connected to and controlled by the central nerve system, then one can more readily grasp the importance of maintaining a spine free of dysfunction.
Why does your spine ‘need checked’? Think of your brain and your spinal cord as the most important highway ever designed. Messages that the brain sends travel through the spinal cord and exit via spinal nerves to transmit messages to the smallest parts of your body called tissue cells. The tissue cells then alternatively send messages back through the spinal nerves up the spinal cord back to the brain in perfect unison. To further grasp this communication highway, realize this: ‘90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine’ – Dr. Roger Sperry
This is a safe assumption to say that any interference between the brain-body connection will limit ones potential to maximize their daily functions. Interference occurs in the spine, called subluxations (a misalignment in the spinal column placing stress upon the nerve system) which create ‘road blocks’ in this super highway.
In Gonstead Chiropractic care we stress the importance of “Getting Checked” because a subluxation is not painful when it first occurs. In fact a subluxation within the spinal column is silent in nature for years often before it becomes noticeably ‘painful’. The Principle Of Time – there is no process that does not require time. The first symptoms that will appear when a subluxation is present is damage to the tissue cells that the nerve regulates, makes, and controls. Symptoms, not pain will be your first indication that something is dysfunctional within the body.
How does one get checked? We check the spine for subluxations by performing x-ray analysis coupled with a neurological assessment to find subluxations and how to adjust them accurately, specifically unique to your spine. Why x-rays? To see it is to know, not to see it is to guess, and we WON’T guess about your health. Upon a daily spinal check-up we analyze the subluxations based on temperature readings and superficial tissue changes along the spine and make sure that you “actually” need to be adjusted. Get checked first. Then, let the adjustment follow.
The age long debate of Chiropractic care: when does one begin care? First, lets understand what Chiropractic is and what it is not. Chiropractic is a philosophy, science and art of things natural; a system of adjusting the segments of the spinal column by hand only, for the correction of dis-ease, as addressed by B.J. Palmer, D.C. This simply means that Chiropractic deals with all things that are natural within the body.
When we use the word ‘dis-ease’ we are referring to an interference with the conductive tissues (nerves) of the body. What Chiropractors are trained to locate and adjust, if necessary, are vertebral subluxations. Misalignment’s of the spinal column that place undo stress upon a single nerve fiber are therefore creating a state of dysfunction within the body. Wouldn’t it be wise to start getting your child checked right away for subluxations?
We begin to take our children to the dentist when teeth begin to develop and form, because we want to make sure they are healthy and developing correctly. What about the central nerve system? The first system ever developed in the human body that makes all the tissue cells of the body…even the teeth! The dentist analogy while easy to use is even overlooked when using good nutrition. You don’t wait to feed your children healthy substantial vegetables and fruits until they are middle-aged: you do it right away. So, why in the health care industry of Chiropractic which is all things natural, would you wait to get their spines checked?
We have been brainwashed that Chiropractic is for middle-aged males who lift a heavy object and ‘throw their back out’. This is the farthest statement from the truth. Why would you wait to begin regular spinal check-ups to ensure optimal function of the central nerve system for developing children. Healthy central nerve system = healthy developing child.
We are an office with a particular focus on pediatrics. We understand that birth, even how amazing as it is, is a stressful situation for not only the mother, but the newborn as well. We cannot stress the importance of starting life off with a clear and functioning nerve system to reach certain milestones in childhood development without limitations.
