How Would You Define Being Healthy?

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, chiropractic adjustment, Chiropractic Myths, kids chiropractic | No Comments

Where does health come from? This question itself is bigger than the short paragraphs that we can provide you with. In order to understand health you must understand the body and the ca pabilities it holds. The current paradigm of “health” that most people assimilate with was based in 1948 post World War II and is still the current model.

With this general concept of what health is we started to become a society based on palliative care and started to turn away from the idea that the body could and would heal from within. Palliative care is based upon relieving the signs and symptoms without dealing with the actual cause of what CAUSED the signs and symptoms in the first place. Why do two people drink from a fountain and only one gets “sick”?

1948 World Health Organization definition of health: “A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. So, just because you don’t have a disease makes you healthy? Far from the truth. Every day you have the choice to make healthy decisions or unhealthy decisions that will alter and change the trajectory of your bodies ability to ADAPT to the stressors you place upon it.

If you start to take up rowing, your hands begin to blister from the new repetition that your body places upon it. Instead of ‘treating’ the blisters with medicine and remedies your body is designed to callus over the blisters and adapt in accordance with the stressors that you place upon your hands.

In Chiropractic, we are solely based upon the adaptability paradigm. We not only have a philosophy of what health is, the science has been there and still continues to support the TRUE definition of health. The bodies ability to remain healthy is innately within all of us and at the center of this health is the central nerve system. Every organ in the body is connected to the one under your hat – B.J. Palmer. Change your paradigm…change your health.

The Role Of Chiropractic

By | Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

What is ‘The Role Of Chiropractic’? Putting The Role Of Chiropractic into three paragraphs and describing it as such is what we have done. We took a page out of a book and put it to use. It is not a complicated read, it is straight forward and directly to the point. Read on to learn about ‘The Role Of Chiropractic’.

Generated within the brain is an energy which flows over the nerve pathways. Extending from tiny cells in the brain is a nerve fiber connection each with a corresponding tissue cell of the body and from the tissue cell is also a nerve pathway back to its controlling brain cell. Over this nerve pathway flows the energy or mental impulse which is the ‘spark of life’ – with it, the tissue cell functions. Without it – normal function is absent. Over and above all of this is an inborn intelligence which coordinates, directs and controls these billions of cells in their activity for coordinated function of health. The pathway to health is a nerve system free of pressure allowing a normal energy flow from the brain to the body at all time.

A vertebral subluxation in the spinal column occludes a foramen, that occlusion produces pressure on nerves. That pressure on nerves interferes with the normal quantity transmission of mental impulse flow between brain and body, and in exact ratio as that mental impulse flow is decreased at the periphery, dis-ease is created and increased in the same ration.

By spinal adjustment, the vertebral subluxation is restored to normal position. This takes pressure off the nerve system allowing for a normal mental impulse flow over the nerve system. In exact ratio as that mental impulse flow is restored at the periphery, dis-ease is decreased and health restored. – The Role Of Chiropractic

Health Care Vs Health Insurance

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, kids chiropractic, pregnancy | No Comments

Health care vs health insurance. What’s the difference between the two? Just about everything. Health care is something that you perform on a day to day basis. It’s easy to be healthy and just on the opposite side it’s easy to be unhealthy. The choices you make are not from genetics. Health care comes with the choices that you make to better yourself and take time for self-love. Being healthy is not something you should take lightly, its hard-work and we typically attempt to gain our health when something bad has happened. In our society nowadays the phrase goes as such, “Young men in life avoids his health to acquire wealth, while later in life will spend his wealth to acquire his health.”

Health care become the actions that you perform on a routine basis. Take for instance, Chiropractic check-ups. You live your life through your central nerve system (CNS). Every human experience you have is controlled, coordinated, and processed through your CNS. Chiropractic care seeks to make sure your body is free of any interference to the CNS and you are functioning at an ideal state by adjusting the spinal column which protects the CNS. The beginning of the disease process begins with postural distortions – Hans Selye, M.D.

Health care is hard-work yet in the long-run is always worth it. Consuming the right foods, taking time for daily exercise, and making sure your thoughts are healthy… is hard-work. These are just a few to name some, yet it really gets down to the choices that you must make to make sure “Health Care” becomes part your daily routine.

Health insurance is really a misnomer. Typically, people use their health insurance when they have an accident, injury, or trauma. Which all these incidents sound really bad and just maybe your insurance will cover your costs (really should be called trauma insurance). Health insurance is not looking after your overall health and well-being. Preventative steps are not taken into account to make sure that your health insurance actually keeps you healthy. No one buys health insurance and then immediately becomes healthy. You have to perform active health care to stay healthy.

Why Does Your Spine ‘Need Checked’

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, chiropractic adjustment | No Comments

Why does your spine ‘need checked’? Think of your brain and your spinal cord as the most important highway ever designed. Messages that the brain sends travel through the spinal cord and exit via spinal nerves to transmit messages to the smallest parts of your body called tissue cells. The tissue cells then alternatively send messages back through the spinal nerves up the spinal cord back to the brain in perfect unison. To further grasp this communication highway, realize this: ‘90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine’ – Dr. Roger Sperry

This is a safe assumption to say that any interference between the brain-body connection will limit ones potential to maximize their daily functions. Interference occurs in the spine, called subluxations (a misalignment in the spinal column placing stress upon the nerve system) which create ‘road blocks’ in this super highway.

In Gonstead Chiropractic care we stress the importance of “Getting Checked” because a subluxation is not painful when it first occurs. In fact a subluxation within the spinal column is silent in nature for years often before it becomes noticeably ‘painful’. The Principle Of Time – there is no process that does not require time. The first symptoms that will appear when a subluxation is present is damage to the tissue cells that the nerve regulates, makes, and controls. Symptomsnot pain will be your first indication that something is dysfunctional within the body.

How does one get checked? We check the spine for subluxations by performing x-ray analysis coupled with a neurological assessment to find subluxations and how to adjust them accurately, specifically unique to your spine. Why x-rays? To see it is to know, not to see it is to guess, and we WON’T guess about your health. Upon a daily spinal check-up we analyze the subluxations based on temperature readings and superficial tissue changes along the spine and make sure that you “actually” need to be adjusted. Get checked first. Then, let the adjustment follow.

Correct Digestion Issues

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, gut problems, immune system | No Comments

Digestion issues unfortunately, in our society, are becoming the new “norm.” It’s almost to the point that if you do not have any digestive issues you are considered “weird”. Digestion, aka gut, is an important topic of concern due to the fact that it is known as the second brain. The rational and reasoning behind this is because approximately 70% of the immune system is housed in the gut.

A healthy gut starts at birth. Normal vaginal deliveries help inoculate the newborn with an overabundance of microbes. This begins the learning process of the immune system. To keep the learning process clear and functioning begins with working on the upper cervical neck region. Often people hear of the “Brain Gut Connection” phrase passed around when talking about digestive issues. This is due to the fact that the upper cervical nerves control, regulate, and made the gut.

A subluxation (misalignment in the spinal column) places undo stress upon a single nerve fiber, thus creating a chemical cascade of events known as dis-ease. Which means that literally your body is not at “ease.” What occurs first will be dysfunctional gut problems, better known as symptoms. What have we been told to do when symptoms occur…suppress them with drugs. Suppressing a symptom never corrects the cause and never allows the body to heal. Looking to the spine first and foremost by correcting subluxations will enable the brain – body connection to be fully established.

Don’t treat symptoms. Chiropractic can get your digestive system working by focusing on the cause. Research, published in the November 2002 issue of the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research (JVSR) demonstrates that chiropractic care may be effective in helping patients with allergies and Crohn’s Disease. What’s considered an allergy in the gut? A chronic hypersensitivity of an over-stimulated immune response. The response coming from the brain via a nerve to the tissue cells of the gut. Once again, the focus of chiropractic care is to remove any physiological blocks to the proper expression of the body’s innate wisdom.

When Should A Child Begin Chiropractic Care?

By | ADHD, Allergies, Asthma, Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

When should a child begin Chiropractic care? Right away. That just about sums up the question. Why? Do you remember what birth was like…and the answer should be no. The first AMAZING physical stressor that we ALL experience in life is birth. Making sure the nerve system is free of interference after birth can set the child up for a healthy road, opposed to a complicated road riddled with chronic illness. Unfortunately, the numbers are not adding up for our children, and now, for this generation, our kids have a lower life expectancy than us.

·  1 in 2.5 children have an allergy

·  1 in 6 children have a developmental disability

·  1 in 9 children have ADHD

The rise of autoimmune disorders is not stopping. The child’s immune system is under constant bombardment with our false intuition that we need to suppress symptoms and destroy acute illnesses. Rather than blame the immune system, focus on the central nerve system which regulates the immune systems potential. Our specialty as chiropractors is to restore the normal communication of the central nerve system through very specific adjustments over a period of time. We are removing the biggest stressor to health: a subluxated nerve system. By adjusting the spinal column, we are restoring that state of ease which allows your child to better adapt to the stressors to be dealt with in daily life.

Kids chiropractic is safe and effective and is not new! Our misconception is that Chiropractic care is for middle-aged men who “throw” their back out taking out the trash. This is the farthest thing from the truth. You wouldn’t wait to give your children healthy substantial food until their middle-ages or take them to the dentist only when their tooth hurts.

Instead of living a symptom suppressing lifestyle which is the common norm now a days, why not introduce a lifestyle of prevention and health. By focusing on the central nerve system to make sure subluxations are clear the body learns a valuable process which it builds on for the long road ahead of life. “Give me a medicine to produce a fever, and I can cure any disease” – Hippocrates.

Yep, You Might Have To Come Back To Get Better.

By | Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

Be weary, once you go to the Chiropractor you might have to go back… DUH. You will want to go back. Often times we hear this with new patients who have no understanding of Chiropractic care other than reading a blog or hearing something a friend said passing by about what Chiropractic is. “Time has and always will perpetuate those methods which better serve mankind. Chiropractic is no exception to that rule.” – B.J. Palmer.

Why would you want to come back? It’s called neuroplasticity. It’s enabling your body to adapt and heal itself. It’s not a new concept, it’s actually been around FOREVER. Your brain is designed to protect you and create a healthy living environment. Just like how a dis-ease process begins to appear or something bad happens in the body… it takes time. With neuroplasticity, the brain can learn to be in a chronic state of sickness and pain. No different than the brain creating a positive life of health.

To change the input and output of the brain takes time. When a subluxation (misalignment in the spine) places undo stress upon a single nerve fiber the entire body will become overexcited. In time this over-excitement when left uncorrected uses more than it should, consumes more tissue cells than it should, and creates a state of dis-ease in the body. Your brain begins to learn this state of living. A new reality is created in a negative presence.

Coming back to the Chiropractor ensures the right subluxations are corrected and adjusted to enable your body to build on the positive. Coming back ensures neuroplasticity is creating a positive reality with open channels throughout the central nerve system with no interference. The simplest way to think about creating positive change is to incorporate orthodontics into the equation. When is the last time you ever heard of someone asking for a “tooth adjustment” in one day to correct changes that have existed for years? Come back, it’s great for you in more ways than you can even imagine. You are 100% in control of you.

Confused About What Chiropractic Care Is? How About What It Is Not.

By | Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

According to journalist Anna Quindlen, the greatest advance in health care in our lifetime has not been transplants or new pharmaceuticals: it has been the rise of the informed consumer. Now, with this knowledge often comes with a mix of good and bad results. Just look how the internet has changed our perspective on “How to’s” or “fix it yourself” videos or blogs that give you insight. A great example of this is Pinterest. There are whole sites out there dedicated to “Pinterest Fails” (people who have attempted to do it themselves and failed).

The message is quite similar when talking about what Chiropractic is and what it is not. Many of the confusions that come with Chiropractic are represented by Chiropractors themselves and have brought disarray to the public mind as to what Chiropractic embraces. Chiropractic does not fall into traditional “health care” as this is really a sickness business that only functions re-actively, after people have become sick. Chiropractic is about focusing health care on staying healthy and preventing sickness.

Think of a Chiropractor as a bio-engineer, they seek to correct the faulty structure of the human body and enable the body to adapt itself. We have established that a subluxation perpetuates disease by irritation of the central nerve system. This is established that a subluxation is a change in environment of a joint and that it causes irritation of the nerve system. Furthermore, the irritation of the central nerve system results in the cause of alteration in the transmission of impulses, and that is the cause of most disease.

One fact remains and does not change for what Chiropractic is. The removal of subluxation, particularly within the vertebral column, for the correction of dis-ease and restoration of health, is Chiropractic. One may alter the method of practice for some unknown reason or alter the definition. However, the basic truth of Chiropractic cannot be altered. Anything other than this basic truth and its intended application is not and cannot be identified as Chiropractic.

Chronic Ear Infections: Covering Up Or Healing

By | ADHD, Asthma, Benefits of Chiropractic

When the word chronic is used to describe a health condition that you have, typically 10 out of 10 times it will be a bad thing.  Why?  Well, first of all you do not hear people saying “I am chronically healthy!”  Many mothers who bring their children into our office for chronic ear infections typically do so as a last resort.  We think that chiropractic care is only for backaches…which is an absolute lie and false information.  Chiropractors are trained experts in the detection and adjustment of vertebral subluxations.  Vertebral subluxations cause chronic ear infections.  What is a vertebral subluxation?  Let’s continue!

The Actual Cause Of Chronic Ear Infections

The actual cause of all dysfunction in the human body, such as an ear infection, is vertebral subluxations.  The vertebral subluxation represents all physical disease in the body.  How and why?  A vertebral subluxation limits the body from adapting and healing.  It places undo stress and tension on the central nerve system, which controls all life.  This then restricts all messages sent throughout the body, or in this case, the inner ear.  When the central nerve system is limited by what it can do, in-coordination occurs within the body.  In-coordination will cause neglect of tissue cells, resulting in symptoms such as ear infections.

Cover It Up Or Help It Heal?

The primary function of the body is to use all parts in harmony to maintain health.  Constant movement in the inner ear allows the Eustachian tubes to function properly by draining.  A vertebral subluxation does not allow the Eustachian tubes to drain due to a disconnection between the brain and the inner ear.  It is that simple.  Covering up chronic ear infections with medication does not allow healing to happen.  Hence, the use of the word chronic.  Keep health simple and keep it straight. If you want more information or more specifics backed up with our research all you have to do is ask.  #getchecked
