Commit To A Healthy Body

Commit to a healthy body by doing what is necessary on a day to day basis.  By doing one thing at a time for your body you can start to appreciate the small things in life that often go unnoticed.  There is no coincidence that people who take care of their body live a stronger more positive lifestyle.  Caring for yourself does not have to be burdensome or a taxing event that leaves you lost and tired throughout the day, in fact in does the complete opposite.  Committing to a healthy body begins with your foundation: a clear and connected nerve system.  Chiropractic focuses on making sure that your master control system (central nerve system) is properly connected to make sure you live your life at your optimal potential.  The nerve system regulates and controls every function and ability that you encounter on a day to day basis.  Why chiropractic?  Regular chiropractic adjustments is essential for a healthy body.  Want to talk about cells, proteins, hormones, endophins, etc, little fun words that have a lot to do with a lot?  All of your cells, tissues, organs, and glands are receiving information every second from your nerve system to enable your body to be at it’s peak performance.

Commit to a healthy body by understanding the consequences of a vertebral subluxation.  A vertebral subluxation is what chiropractors are trained to check your spine for and if necessary, specifically adjust.  A vertebral subluxation is in essence a central nerve system malfunction.  It is not a pinched nerve, back pain or neck pain.  It diminishes your ability to function at your best by creating stress within the one thing you only have one of: your body.  By neglecting your spine to make sure your have proper alignment you in fact accelerate the process of decay and dysfunction within the body.  A healthy body is directly proportional to a healthy nerve system.  What about eating right and regular exercise?  You are exactly right!  Both of these two variables play huge dividends in how the body operates.  Both of these are not only instrumental to maintaining a healthy body but also rely directly on the nerve system to coordinate movement and process daily nutrients.  No matter how you spin it, everything comes back to the nerve system.  Commit to a healthy body by making sure your nerve system is clear of any dysfunction.  Get Checked.

Proper Body Function

Proper Body Function

Proper body function.  What does that statement mean to you?  Function is defined as ” an activity or purpose natural to or intended for a person or thing.”  Function is the way that you express your life to your fullest potential, without any limitations.  People that seek chiropractic care are doing this to have proper body function on a day to day basis.  Nothing is more frustrating than a quality of life that has limitations and restrictions on daily functions.  Awareness of body function is fundamental to understanding health and the possibilities that everyone has to obtain.

What Proper Body Function Is Not

Proper body function does not come in the form of a pill.  You cannot expect that taking something to cover up a sign or symptom is the ultimate way to express your function.  Function does not come in the form of a lotion or potion that has to be regularly applied.  Function does not come in the form of surgery or taking something away from your body unnecessarily.  We do realize, and accept, that at certain times maybe one of these variables might be necessary.  Major traumas, accidents, and injuries do occur in life.  If you’re always going to rely on a crutch at least make sure you have explored all options before doing so.

What It Is

Proper body function is allowing your body to heal and overcome obstacles in your way, which is the greatest natural force that we all have.  It’s time to get off the medical system and to take care of yourself.  Chiropractic care allows you to express life without limitations and without having to add something artificially to your body.  Chiropractic restores your life by making sure your central nerve system is properly functioning, which in turn enables everything in your body to be sufficient.  Everything that you do in life is expressed through your nerve system, chiropractic keeps that nerve system connected and healthy with specific adjustments.  Chiropractic does not take anything away from your body nor does it supplement it.  The original beauty of your body is that it is a self-sustainable organism, it knows what to do!  With specific regular adjustments your body has no other option but to maintain proper body function.

Life Is Motion

Life Is Motion

Life is motion!  Every interaction that we have on this earth has to generate some sort of motion.  Ever take the time to stop and wonder?  Well, even if you do take time to stop and think about that, your body is still generating movement.  Thinking still cultivates movement along the neurological pathway to require the process of thoughts.  Even to stop and take a nap during the day your body is still producing movement, digestive enzymes, hormones, peristaltic motion, etc.  Mobility is required in just about every form of life and it’s our ability to keep healthy movement a sustainable part of our daily life.  We often think about exercising when we think about motion and for good reason.  Exercising is vital to maintaining a healthy body that is constantly being re-energized with proper chemistry to sustain an optimal quality of life.

Chiropractic Motion

Chiropractic focuses specially on the central nerve system (the master controller of your body) and making sure that there are no obstacles in the communication process between brain to body.  Chiropractors focus on identifying vertebral subluxations within the spine that limit your ability to function.  When a subluxation occurs within the body it creates an entire central nerve system dysfunction that limits…motion!  When your brain sends messages down through the spinal cord out to your vital organs, cells, tissues, and glands this is all MOTION.  Without going into too much detail about how nerves generate mobility, a subluxation produces the complete opposite.  When chiropractors find and locate the specific subluxations they then perform and adjustment to that vertebra.  Guess what?  A specific chiropractic adjustment is MOTION!  By applying the right amount of force in the right direction your body has no other option but to start healing from the subluxation and restore normal function.

Restore Proper Mobility

Understanding what is right for your body is unique to everyone.  That is why chiropractic is specific to each unique individual spine.  With restoring proper mobility within the spinal region the body restores proper communication and enables you to function at your optimal.  Think about exercising with a subluxation, think about not being able to perform at 100% and wondering why?  Proper mobility is key to living a life free of obstacles and maintaining your health.

The Immune System Vs The Flu

The Immune System Vs The Flu

That time of the year is already upon us as we get ready for the upcoming holidays.  When we get to challenge our immune system and see how our body handles the constant bombardment of The Flu!  Remember the flu is not an actual season, it can happen or occur at any time of the year (for the sake of this blog we will keep it intact that it’s an actual season).  The immune system regulates and controls a vast array of organs, tissues, glands, and cells to make up what we know as the immune system.  We often overlook the immune system and only recognize its inabilities when we become sick.  The immune system is constantly running, thriving, and upgrading every single day.  Your body is constantly exposed to new pathogens (invaders to the body) and it’s the immune systems responsibility on how you perceive and interpret this data.  When The Flu strikes your body, you begin to have signs and symptoms.

Signs and symptoms that your immune system is compromised from the flu are far from in between.  You could feel sluggish, run down, develop a cough, sneezing, fever, chest congestion, diarrhea, etc.  The flu is not just one symptom that your body shows, but rather a bunch of signs and symptoms put together.  When your immune system is compromised and you develop a sign and symptom your body should fight and defend itself for 1-2 days and then restore normal function.  You should not be sick for weeks at a time or longer than 3 days, if this is the case then your body is taking a little longer than expected.  Why would that be the case?  Possibly due to a dysfunctional nerve system leading to an unhealthy immune system!  What if you are constantly getting sick over and over again? Again, possibly due to a dysfunctional nerve system leading to an unhealthy immune system!

Subluxations occur within the spine which create a central nerve system DYSFUNCTION.  Subluxations are what chiropractors are trained to find and adjust.  Imagine a subluxation as being a downed power line, it’s a dangerous situation to be in. Power is still being transmitted but is not sending and receiving the proper information.  A subluxation still allows the nerve to send messages, but not too its full potential nor to the right amount.  This in time will lead to a depressed immunity which inhibits your true potential on how you respond to the flu or any pathogen for that matter.  Your nerve system regulates and controls all other systems within the body.  The immune system is not overlooked, if at the first sign of the flu you jump to use medication you are losing the fight.  By just masking signs and symptoms with medication you never realize the potential that your immune system can have.  Proper health begins with a healthy functioning nerve system.  Get your nerves checked to allow you to fight the healthy battle.

Healthy Kids Education

Healthy Kids Education

Healthy kids education?  Healthy kids is what each parent wants and looks to achieve during their lifespan.  When we think of healthy kids our first thought is typically free of disease and symptoms.  Unfortunately, this is not the case for the growing trend in our society.  As a chiropractor I come under the title of doctor, my mentors and schooling taught me that doctor means “teacher”.  It is our responsibility to inform and educate about why you see a chiropractor and the endless health choices that come under specific chiropractic care.  One of the first duties of the physician is to educate the masses not to take medicine – Sir William Osler.  When it comes to health we have been masked to believe that it comes in the form of a lotion, pill or needle.  Our body was not designed to process artificial stimulation on a continual basis, it is not the natural order.  The body was designed to heal on its own accord and it takes time to heal.

To impact our society we need to focus on the kids.  Healthy kids begins with the upbringing, foundation of healthy eating, regular exercise, and positive emotional stimulation.  When it comes to their overall well-being and health related issues, chiropractors are primary health care doctors.  The first physical trauma that we all experience is birth, regardless of how amazing it is, it is still traumatic.  Right then you should be wanting your child checked to make sure that their nerve system is properly functioning.  Nerves and chiropractic, the two words go hand in hand.  Chiropractors are nerve system specialists who remove interference in the body by specifically adjusting subluxations.  A subluxation occurs when stress is placed on a spinal nerve, thus in turn creating dysfunction within the body.

Healthy kids start with a healthy functioning nerve system.  All processes that begin with signs and symptoms have an origin, a malfunctioning nerve system.  Think of some common childhood health problems: ear infections, colic, constipation, colds, etc.  If the immune system is compromised then the nerve system controlling this has to be compromised to an extent.  So, what do we do if our kids have signs and symptoms?  Get their nerve system checked!  Want to boost their immune system the natural way?  Want to help strengthen their immunity and potentially reduce the incidence of general illness?  No drugs required!  Regular chiropractic adjustments to ensure their optimal potential leads to healthy kids!

Degenerative Disc Disease Is Not Hereditary

Degenerative Disc Disease Is Not Hereditary

Degenerative disc disease gets some bad reps; understand that it’s not a good thing to have and is often misunderstood.  Just because your mother might have degenerative disc disease does not mean that you have to have it nor will have it.  First, recognize that even though it has the word disease in it, it is not actually a disease.  Second, we think that all older people will have degenerative disc disease, which is also not true.  Most people that have degenerative disc disease will say that they are shrinking as they are growing older, they might say my bones are shrinking!  When in actuality your bones are sort of growing and therefore destroying the disc space in between the bones. You are shrinking because your disc space is decreasing.

How does degenerative disc disease even appear/manifest/or happen?  First, let’s cover what a subluxation is.  A subluxation occurs in your spinal column that places pressure upon one or more spinal nerves which creates an entire central nerve system dysfunction.  It creates havoc within your entire body, not just the one or more nerves being affected.  When a subluxation exists for a period of time uncorrected it creates instability within your spinal column.  If you have instability within your spinal column for an extended period of time your body will begin to stabilize itself.  When your body begins to stabilize the spinal column it will do so with the strongest material that it is capable of developing, bone.  Degenerative disc disease can first start out as fragments of calcification leading to formation of bone (bone spurs).  Think of it this way: if your house is leaning over and is unstable, you are going to build upon it with a strong support system in place.  Your body will do the same thing!

Individuals with degenerative disc disease can have safe and effective chiropractic adjustments to maintain the amount of growth present.  Chiropractors cannot take away the degeneration that occurred, but can maintain the growth by providing specific chiropractic adjustments to form proper stability within the spinal column.  Get your nerves checked!

Back Discomfort From A Wallet

Back Discomfort From A Wallet

Back discomfort from a wallet can be a very compromising situation for most.  Reason being is that many just find it awkward if their wallet is not resting in their back pocket.  Back discomfort from a wallet can be the source of many people’s pain or it can just be something that adds up over time.  It’s not like you are going to sit down on your wallet all of a sudden and have immediate back discomfort.  These things take time to manifest and to actually become a problem.  Think of your body as  a “house”, as many home owners know it takes work to make sure that house is properly functioning and a stable environment to live in.  Now, imagine if you are constantly putting that wallet in the back pocket and every time you are sitting down you are creating an unstable foundation (your basement keeps receiving structural blows).  You are not going to recognize the back discomfort initially, it will take time before you recognize “cracks” in your foundation.

Back discomfort from a wallet occurs over a long period of time.  Your body will begin to shift to accommodate for the wallet and create posture distortions throughout your entire spine.  These posture distortions will manifest as subluxations.  A subluxation is what chiropractors check your spine for and, if necessary, adjust.  Subluxations create dysfunction within your entire body by creating a central nerve system disturbance.  This disturbance will put your body on a constant state of protection and more specifically on the fast track for the stress response.  Back discomfort will not be apparent at first from a wallet, your body will develop signs and symptoms letting you know that organs, cells, tissues, and glands are not properly functioning.  Then, years down the road the back discomfort will appear.

Specific chiropractic adjustments will ensure that your body is healing and restoring normal spinal curvatures.  Taking the wallet out of the back pocket would most definitely help back discomfort.  Wallet out of the back pocket and specific chiropractic adjustments would ensure you are adapting and overcoming years of compensation.  Get checked!

Gonstead Chiropractor In Kalispell Montana

We have our new listing for the Gonstead Clinical Studies Society.  What is Gonstead?   Follow our listing :  Find us HERE

The Gonstead Concept of chiropractic begins with a basic biomechanical principle of physics. Every engineer, architect, builder and carpenter knows the importance of a proper foundation in constructing a building, for this insures durability and long life. Any slight change or shift in the foundation can cause a great amount of deviation in the top part of the structure and, perhaps, ultimately, its collapse.

The body’s foundation is formed by the pelvic girdle. When this bony structure consisting of hip bones and the lower bones of the back is level, there will be maximum balance and stability in the spinal column. When the pelvic girdle or any of the vertebrae (bones making up the spinal column) become tilted or rotated out of their proper position, dramatic changes may occur in the body.

These misalignments can cause pressure on the discs that separate the vertebrae. (The condition of the disc is the key to the patient’s health problem in many cases.) Vertebra can become misaligned either from the cumulative effects of several minor episodes or from a single accident. Nature frequently is able to cope with these jolts to the spinal column without assistance. Sometimes, though, vertebrae tilted or rotated out of their normal position can be too much for nature to deal with effectively.

In order to more fully understand what occurs, we should know that the discs are really pads between the vertebrae and consist of a spongy substance surrounded by fibers of cartilage. When there is misalignment of a vertebra, there is uneven pressure on the disc causing it to swell and protrude. (One often hears this referred to as a slipped, herniated or ruptured disc.)

Chiropractors call this condition a SUBLUXATION when it results in the pinching or compressing of the nerves that run through that particular area. These compressed nerves often become inflamed and impede the proper transmission of impulses to the section of the body controlled by these nerves. A seemingly endless list of ailments and pain may be brought about by these subluxations.

Generally, misaligned vertebrae in the spine are easily recognized, particularly those in the upper portion of the vertebral column. However, less easily found and often overlooked are misalignments in the foundation or lower portions of the spine.

The ability to recognize and correct these misalignments forms an integral part of the Gonstead Concept. For example: When the lower portion of the spinal column has misaligned vertebra, the body tries to keep itself and its skeleton upright and straight. Often it compensates by causing a vertebra above to become misaligned. This is the body’s way of attempting to re-establish the normal perpendicular position of the body.

If just the top misaligned vertebra was adjusted, in cases where additional vertebrae are misaligned, only limited relief could result. This would not be getting to the source of the trouble. For complete and lasting results, all of the misaligned vertebrae must be identified and then a program can be initiated to restore them to their normal position. Every chiropractic case presents a different combination of misaligned vertebrae.

A Sense For Chronic Pain

A Sense For Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is and should not be the norm for individuals to have to live with!  Chronic pain is usually associated with some sort of physical suffering that our body endures.  In reality, your body is telling you that something is not right.  Your body can still function and perform, but not to its optimal potential that it is designed for.  Pain is transmitted through the sensory part of the nerve.  The sensory part of the nerve is a very small portion in comparison to the motor part (muscle, etc) and autonomic part (blood vessels, etc).  If your body is constantly sending pain messages, your nerve system is trying to tell you something.  Realize that your nerve system regulates and controls every human experience you have.  Your nerve system is not functioning to your optimal potential when chronic pain is persistent.  Someone who suffers from this needs to realize that pain is a RED FLAG and most likely there is an underlying reason why.

Pressure upon a nerve decreases the firing capacity that is supposed to be 100%.  When a spinal bone moves and puts pressure upon a nerve it is called a subluxation.  When this process first begins, typically you will not feel the sensation of pain first.   Your body will enter protection mode, muscle fatigue, spasms, low energy, any real possible signs and symptoms for that specific nerve and the vital organs, cells, and tissues it controls.  These first signs and symptoms that your body presents should be your first indicator of “chronic pain.”  As the subluxation continues uncorrected for some time, your body will eventually develop the physical sensation of pain.  That is why it is so important to have your nerves checked periodically even before the sensation of pain appears.

In a randomized controlled trial, 183 patients with neck pain were randomly allocated to manual therapy (spinal mobilization), physiotherapy (mainly exercise) or general practitioner care (counseling, education and drugs) in a 52-week study.  The clinical outcomes measures showed that manual therapy resulted in faster recovery than physiotherapy and general practitioner care.  Moreover, total costs of the manual therapy – treated patients were about one-third of the costs of physiotherapy or general practitioner care. ~ Korthals-de Bos et al (2003), British Medical Journal
