The health market is and always will be filled with the latest and newest fad.  Why?  Because we assume that health is something that can be bought, bartered, traded, or consumed.  A reference that I often think about when it comes to buying health is the Kevin Costner movie Tin Cup.  In  shortened version, Costner loses his dominate swing and decides that what he needs is exactly what he doesn’t.  Gimmicks.  He buys the latest and newest gimmicks that will “improve” his swing.  Our health is often associated with the same tendencies.

Beware Of The Doctor Recommendation

When the key tagline of the product states that it is doctor recommended, you need to stop and think.  Top variable to consider when thinking about a product is that health sells.  Where does the money trail lead to?  Just because a doctor puts a credibility stamp on it, means nothing.  Remember back in the day doctors used to endorse smoking.  Google the verb age “doctors and smoking” and follow the trail.

The Instant Fix Of Buying Health

Guess what?  There is no such thing as a quick fix when it comes to health.  Time is the biggest factor.  When you have 2 week fads or other shenanigans claiming to do this or that.  Come back to reality.  Any change that you are looking to acquire will take time.  This concept of change on the body requires time.  If you are constantly shocking the body with this diet, and this pill, and this supplement for only short periods of time, you are wasting your money.  Buying health requires time.

Health Has Not Changed & Nor Will It

The claims will never stop of the newest and latest gadget to shed off pounds or any other device that is invented to make a quick buck.  So, just ignore them.  Get back to the basics that have survived the test of time.  Superficially to be healthy you need to eat a substantial diet and exercise.  Simple.  On the inside of the body make sure your central nerve system is running at 100%.  If you are looking to be healthy do you choose the hospital or the chiropractic office?  Simple.  Chiropractic care makes sure that the well people stay well.  Chiropractic care is done without lotions, potions, gimmicks, or fads.

What is true health?  Some people say that health is a life without symptoms.  Others relate health to merely the ability to do what you do without limitations.  Either way, health is hard-work.  In our culture we have a tendency to take prescriptions like they are going out of style.  Our country is over medicated and this doesn’t stop the rising toll of deaths from heart disease, cancer, and other sickness.  Self maintaining health begins and end without taking things externally.

How Does Maintaining Health Work

Maintaining health starts all the way at the beginning.  The very first entity that is developed in-utero is the central nerve system.  The brain and spinal cord are simply developed to begin building everything else.  Somewhere along the line of life we lose track of whats important.  We lose track of our health and perceive that a symptom is only manageable by taking medicine.  Get back to the central nerve system and realize it controls everything.

If you are in the pursuit of healthcare then look no further.  Ask yourself a simple question.  What is the most important structure within my body?  Brain, spine, or central nerve system should be your top answer.  Without health, life cannot simply manifest.  Health within a body comes from a clear and connected central nerve system.  Without a happy central nerve system you do not have health.  Trauma should not start your way towards health.

Before The Trauma

Chiropractor’s roughly take care of 10% of the population.  A solid chunk of this number is associated with people who have sustained a trauma.  Our society dictates that when a trauma occurs that we should see a chiropractor.  This is FALSE.  Chiropractic did not start on the doctrine that after your car accident you should see your chiropractor.  Chiropractors definitely can help and assist you after the accident, it is not what chiropractic stands for though.  Chiropractic focus on health and what causes somebody to be healthy and stay that way.

Seek Health Out

Chiropractic is the only profession that allows the body to adapt and heal without altering the body externally.  This meaning NOT taking drugs, lotions, or potions or something artificially to alter the body.  How to be healthy?  Seek active health care out before a trauma occurs.  The trauma is something that occurs on a regular basis.  It is not the sudden car accident we suspect.

Types of trauma that we are referring to are the repetitions in life.  Think of the things that you do over and over again.  Repetition is the top physical trauma that brings people into the office.  Imagine if I have bad posture today.  Chances are that tomorrow I will have the same posture.  If I have to look at a computer screen all day while sitting today.  My odds tomorrow is that I will do the same thing.

What To Do With Constant Muscle Tension?

Muscle tension often shows up after a vigorous exercise or a new activity that your body is not used to.  This tension should dissipate after a couple of days.  That is considered a normal chain of events.  If the muscle tension exists for an extended period of time, somethings up.  If you find yourself at the end of the day having the same tension over and over again, your body is not healing.  The body is trying to communicate to you, just listen.

Your body always works from inside to out.  The central nerve system coordinates all activity for the musckelskeletal system.  Muscles do not upset the firing capacity of a nerve.  A nerve becomes irritated and upsets the muscles the nerve is controlling .  If a specific nerve in your spine has chronic irritation as a direct result the muscles it controls will be irritated as well.  This irritation occurs from subluxations within the body.  A subluxation irritates a nerve thus rendering the nerve to be below its optimal potential.  Think of irritation as dropping a phone call that is vitally important.  This will happen over and over again.

The entire concept of the phrase health doctors was initially brought to us by a new patient.  It’s amazing that the general public has a thorough understanding of what health is and what it is not.  This patient stated they conducted research and wanted to HEAL, they were tired of covering ‘things’ up. The biggest tenant that our society is starting to grasp, is that the body is self regulating and self healing.  You get cut, you heal.  You break a bone, it takes time and yet you still heal.  The body does not require anything else.

Well to put it in simplest form, it’s chiropractors.  Chiropractor’s do not take, add, or alter the body in any way .  Chiropractor’s simply remove interference which thus properly establishes proper communication from brain to body.  This interference comes in the form of a subluxation.  A subluxation places undo stress upon a specific nerve rendering your body in a state of fight or flight.  Think of plugging 30 electrical devices into a single outlet (with no surge protector).  Eventually when the outlet can not adapt to the stress placed on it, boom goes the breaker.  Much like a subluxation in the body.

Feeling versus functioning is a misleading concept that we often get stuck in with regards to our health.  Which is more important to you?  The entire concept of “feel” is very subjective in nature and differs from one person to another.  Functioning on the other hand is ultimately what chiropractor’s are trying to achieve for patients.   I could be feeling really good and yet at the same time have complete loss of function of one arm.  Which is more important to you?

The Feel Good

When you start seeing a chiropractor, when done specifically and correctly you can “get” a patient to feel good.  The reason for this is because the sensory part of the central nerve system is drastically a relatively small component of how your body operates.  Sensory nerves are important, yet compared to your motor and autonomic nerves the sensory is roughly 10% of the entire system together.  What one person might consider as pain the other person wouldn’t even stop to think about it.  Nerve tension exists without pain.

Function Function Function

The spine and nerve system are interrelated and connected to every aspect of our expression of health and wellness.  The central nerve system coordinates, controls, and determines every ascpect of function that we encounter on a daily basis.  Fixing the cause of your problems is addressing the dysfunction present in your body.  If taking medication to numb feelings to allow you to function is your idea of healing you are only making things worse.  Let your body be it’s guide and listen to it.

The Epidemic Of Text Neck

The epidemic of text neck has been developing for some time, and is now starting to spread it’s full wings.  Text neck is a generalized term that is associated with some sort of electronic device and using improper posture while on the device.  This can range from cellphones, tablets, kindles, I-pads, laptops, and whatever else is out there.  It’s not that you have to be strictly texting while performing bad posture, it’s just statistically based that texting is the top activity performed.

How To Change The Posture

Much like anything in life, moderation is the key.  The biggest component to monitor is having the electronic device parallel to your eye level.  Do not bring your eyes down to the device, instead bring the device to your eye level.  Performing this simple maneuver will decrease the amount of strain that is placed on your central nerve system from improper positioning.  Another simple variable is to always switch-up your positioning.  Place the device in a sitting position, then a standing position, and then lay-down.  Constantly changing your posture prevents repetitive nature which causes harm in the long run.

Why Text Neck Is Bad

Your cervical spine (neck) is supposed to have a specific curvature to it.  When a hand-held device enters the picture our tendency is to look downwards at the screen thus creating an improper curvature within the spine.  Over time text neck begins to ensue by over-straining your muscles, ligaments, and tendons.  This text neck begins to limit your correct curvature of the spine which in time will place constant stress on the body.

Figure It out

In this day and age children will never know what it’s like not to have the internet.  As early as two years of age now, some children have their own electronic devices.  If their posture is not monitored, then the beginning of text neck will set in.  Fixing the posture and having regular chiropractic check-ups will restore the normal balance in the body.

Asthma In Kids The Epidemic

Asthma in kids the epidemic in our society is steadily on the rise and has been for some time.  Did you know that approximately 6.8 million kids in the United States suffer from chronic asthma.  Asthma in kids is not something that usually makes the front headlines, yet is a daily struggle for those who have to endure it and the struggle is real.  For those parents who have children with asthma, probably the research has been done on ways to improve their “condition”.  We understand that the airways are under constant strain by either a spasm or a hypersensitivity to something in the environment.  Treating the symptoms of asthma in kids usually is found with respiratory inhalers or suppressing all symptoms together by administering steroid use.  These methods might be necessary for severe instances or certain circumstances, yet we are still suppressing a child’s ability to thrive and develop.  Need to understand that the body is trying to adapt and to heal from something that is disturbing the ultimate functionality of breathing.

Asthma in kids and everyone else is triggered for a specific reason.  Specifically the lower portion of the neck directly regulates and controls the airways and how they function.  These nerves are sending information for cells, tissues, and everything that those airways need.  If and when a subluxation in the spine occurs at a specific level in the neck it disrupts the entire functioning of the respiratory system.   A subluxation is when one or more vertebrae place undo stress upon a nerve creating an entire central nerve system dysfunction.  This can lead to the airways being under constant strain to produce air and efficient amounts of it.  As a consequence asthma in kids can manifest and continue to plague the quality of life.  Now, we are not saying that we are going to cure asthma in kids.  What chiropractic allows is to specifically locate and adjust subluxations, in return allowing the body to heal and adapt to the stress.  By restoring proper communication via the central nerve system the body has no other option but to correctly process and perceive all in-coming and out-going information.  Get those nerves checked!
