Yep, You Might Have To Come Back To Get Better.

By | Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

Be weary, once you go to the Chiropractor you might have to go back… DUH. You will want to go back. Often times we hear this with new patients who have no understanding of Chiropractic care other than reading a blog or hearing something a friend said passing by about what Chiropractic is. “Time has and always will perpetuate those methods which better serve mankind. Chiropractic is no exception to that rule.” – B.J. Palmer.

Why would you want to come back? It’s called neuroplasticity. It’s enabling your body to adapt and heal itself. It’s not a new concept, it’s actually been around FOREVER. Your brain is designed to protect you and create a healthy living environment. Just like how a dis-ease process begins to appear or something bad happens in the body… it takes time. With neuroplasticity, the brain can learn to be in a chronic state of sickness and pain. No different than the brain creating a positive life of health.

To change the input and output of the brain takes time. When a subluxation (misalignment in the spine) places undo stress upon a single nerve fiber the entire body will become overexcited. In time this over-excitement when left uncorrected uses more than it should, consumes more tissue cells than it should, and creates a state of dis-ease in the body. Your brain begins to learn this state of living. A new reality is created in a negative presence.

Coming back to the Chiropractor ensures the right subluxations are corrected and adjusted to enable your body to build on the positive. Coming back ensures neuroplasticity is creating a positive reality with open channels throughout the central nerve system with no interference. The simplest way to think about creating positive change is to incorporate orthodontics into the equation. When is the last time you ever heard of someone asking for a “tooth adjustment” in one day to correct changes that have existed for years? Come back, it’s great for you in more ways than you can even imagine. You are 100% in control of you.

Hope Hope Hooray!

There is a sense of overwhelming peace when you know that there is hope in any given situation. This simple four-letter word provides security for not only the future, but also for time and space where one currently resides. Commonly seen today in the medical model approach, hope seems to be the first thing that is stripped away. Labels of weakness, dis-ease, and fear understandingly drive any mind to a place where optimism simply cannot exist.

We are here to tell you that there is hope! The body is not weak nor is it destined for sickness. All of us have an intelligent, self-governing and self-regulating system that controls every function of the body and its healing capabilities. In fact, this innate intelligence that is in you today, has been with you since one cell became two in your mothers womb – Pretty neat. However this internal homeostatic-system can become reduced when bombarded with external factors. Similar to poor cell reception, when stress, i.e. physical, chemical, or emotional stress is placed on the body, necessary nerve communication becomes less than optimal, insert dis-ease here.

A chiropractors primary responsibility is to locate this undo stress placed on the Central Nerve System via vertebral subluxations. When this subluxation is corrected and optimal communication of our Central Nerve System is restored, healing will naturally occur. Healing is an inborn potential that simply needs to be unleashed. Bj Palmer said it best, “While other professions are concerned with changing the environment to suit the weakened body; Chiropractic is concerned with strengthening the body to suit the environment.” We know that the body needs no help once we remove nerve interference, and this is the role of the chiropractor. Outside of altering normal physiology (drugs) and altering normal biomechanics (surgery) what if there was a different way? Because the Central Nerve System controls every tissue, organ, glad, and cell in our body, healing can still exist when optimal communication between brain and body is restored. This is why it is crucial to get checked.

Healthy Central Nerve System = Healthy Immune System

By | Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

The master control system (central nerve system, CNS) directly coordinates and controls every other system in the human body. Second to the CNS in importance of keeping our bodies in optimal health is the immune system. The immune system is our body’s natural defense against foreign invaders such as toxins, pollutants, bacteria, germs and other external stressors. Your body is constantly on guard to defend against such stressors and needs to be in an ideal state for the immune system to function properly.

The main way the CNS and the immune system communicate is via chemical messengers which are released by nerve cells. The CNS affects the immune system both directly and indirectly. The direct effect is via communication of nerve cells with white blood cells; while the indirect effect is through blood-borne neurotransmitters and hormones.

What inhibits your immune system response to effectively defend against stressors? Improper dysfunction within the CNS will create internal interference between every system that the CNS coordinates. Subluxation (misalignment within the spinal column) will create undo stress upon a single nerve fiber creating internal chaos and improper coordination. When a subluxation exists the first system in your body that becomes weakened will be the immune system and your immune responses.

A subluxation impedes the CNS’s ability to properly coordinate and effectively control all other systems in the human body. A subluxaion is stress on your immune system. This in turn will deplete the immune system’s ability to properly adapt and heal due to the chronic inflammation placed upon the body via a subluxation. With chronic inflammation the immune system adversely is weakened and not properly able to coordinate neurological and biological communication, which decreases your immune cell production and leads to chronic sickness.

The foundation of health begins with a properly functioning CNS. It has been demonstrated that balancing and maximizing the coordination of the CNS is key to optimal health and immune system function.

Why Specificity Matters

By | Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

Specificity matters. Without specificity you have nothing. In the Gonstead method of Chiropractic specificity is KEY. One of the first and most important criteria that enables specificity is the x-ray analysis. X-ray analysis allows the Chiropractor to pinpoint the specific subluxations (misalignment’s) that need corrected and more importantly to find the compensations that do not need to be corrected. Without this criteria one can simply guess as to the correct subluxation.

The specific adjustment should be applied in the direction which is consistent with the physiological movement of the vertebra being adjusted. The contact point should be as precise as possible so that the concentrated force is delivered in the structures that need be. It should be stated that the specific adjustment is in the form of a dynamic thrust that is introduced into the body, and the innate intelligence of that body will utilize the dynamic thrust, to make the necessary corrections and reduce subluxation, thereby removing nerve interference.

The primary objective in Chiropractic is to remove irritation to the central nerve system by securing normal structural relationships. Specificity is key because everyone does not have the same problem. There is no cookie-cutter formula to Chiropractic and everyone does not receive the same adjustment. The adjustment is specific and unique to you based on your structural relationship of your spinal column. Life is motion, and chiropractic seeks to restore motion objectively for your spine and yours alone.

Utilizing the Gonstead method of Chiropractic grants the Chiropractic a system, analysis, and a scientific protocol that can be applied to everyone. When you have a method of Chiropractic that is replicable due to the fact that it produces results based on each different patient, then you have validity which produces a scientific approach. If you’re tired of treating symptoms and just getting by, Gonstead Chiropractic seeks the specific cause of why. In order to be truly healthy, it’s vital that your central nerve system be functioning free of interference.

Confused About What Chiropractic Care Is? How About What It Is Not.

By | Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

According to journalist Anna Quindlen, the greatest advance in health care in our lifetime has not been transplants or new pharmaceuticals: it has been the rise of the informed consumer. Now, with this knowledge often comes with a mix of good and bad results. Just look how the internet has changed our perspective on “How to’s” or “fix it yourself” videos or blogs that give you insight. A great example of this is Pinterest. There are whole sites out there dedicated to “Pinterest Fails” (people who have attempted to do it themselves and failed).

The message is quite similar when talking about what Chiropractic is and what it is not. Many of the confusions that come with Chiropractic are represented by Chiropractors themselves and have brought disarray to the public mind as to what Chiropractic embraces. Chiropractic does not fall into traditional “health care” as this is really a sickness business that only functions re-actively, after people have become sick. Chiropractic is about focusing health care on staying healthy and preventing sickness.

Think of a Chiropractor as a bio-engineer, they seek to correct the faulty structure of the human body and enable the body to adapt itself. We have established that a subluxation perpetuates disease by irritation of the central nerve system. This is established that a subluxation is a change in environment of a joint and that it causes irritation of the nerve system. Furthermore, the irritation of the central nerve system results in the cause of alteration in the transmission of impulses, and that is the cause of most disease.

One fact remains and does not change for what Chiropractic is. The removal of subluxation, particularly within the vertebral column, for the correction of dis-ease and restoration of health, is Chiropractic. One may alter the method of practice for some unknown reason or alter the definition. However, the basic truth of Chiropractic cannot be altered. Anything other than this basic truth and its intended application is not and cannot be identified as Chiropractic.

How Long Does Chiropractic Care Last?

By | Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

Great question!  The age old adage is that when you start seeing a Chiropractor you will have to keep going.  Why?  This statement has merit yet without the proper context seems like insanity.  Chiropractic is a natural approach to health focusing specifically and solely on the central nerve system (the master control system).  Without an optimal functioning central nerve system health itself cannot manifest.  All the systems of the human body are controlled, regulated, and coordinated everyday via the central nerve system.  SAFE to say that health comes from within the body!

A Chiropractor is a trained professional that utilizes hands-on adjustments. We are the only profession skilled in naturally finding and correcting dysfunction (subluxations) within the central nerve system via adjustments. Now, this does not answer the question how long Chiropractic care lasts, yet it is sufficient to understand our role.

How long Chiropractic care lasts is ultimately up the patient.  It’s similar to saying “how long would I like to stay healthy?”  Chiropractic care is not an ER visit.  While some do utilize Chiropractic in this fashion, you will only ever receive ER (quick fix) results with your care rather than lasting effects. It’s basically saying that only 1 time a month you will eat some sort of vegetable to keep you strong and vibrant.  Does it work?  It doesn’t cause you any harm.  Chiropractic care is a natural, drug-less approach to health and your overall well-being.  The care is adapted to each patient and how their body either requires more or less. We have a pharmacy inside us that is absolutely exquisite, it makes the right medicine for the precise time, for the right target organ – with no side effects – Deepak Chopra.  The Law of supply and demand.

Think of it this way.  When you visit a medical doctor for a symptom you typically receive a medication.  Present a symptom and we will present you with a pill.  The purpose of the pill is to create a chemical imbalance within the body thus masking the symptom. How long should you be on the pill?  Maybe a couple of weeks or until the symptoms resolve.  Did your body heal and adapt? NO!  So, when the symptoms show up again a week later because you are off the pill you should probably go back on it…and for a longer period of time this round.  So, when do we ever truly stop the cascade of events?  Why not incorporate a natural, drug less approach to health and your overall well-being.  The human body, when it is functioning on all cylinders, will make any chemical that it requires.  You only need to stay healthy.  How long does Chiropractic care last? You decide.  You can make time for wellness or you can make time for sickness later.

Proper Structure = Proper Posture

Proper Structure = Proper Posture

Special attention must be given when talking and differentiating between structure and posture.  Definition of structure – the arrangement of and relations between the parts or elements of something complex.  The human body is COMPLEX to say the least.  In Chiropractic we utilize the science that the body is an entire unit.  The patient is an entity and must be dealt with as such.  The primary need is to correct all faults in the entire architecture of the patient.

In Chiropractic we visualize the spinal column via x-ray analysis to understand the health of the most important and complex system within your entire body…the central nerve system.  Your spinal structure is often hindered by vertebral subluxations that create chaos within the most complex system in the body.  Nevertheless, structural corrections must be made to restore normal flow of the CNS.  Imagine the importance of x-ray’s and getting a clear understanding of what to do for the patient, most importantly though, of what not to do.  Primo Non Nocere (First, not to injure).

Proper spinal structure will bring about proper posture.  The definition of posture- the position in which someone holds their body when standing or sitting.  People can have “good” posture and still have a poor spinal structure.  Imagine how much more energy the body would have if the spinal structure was intact within the proper limits.  When subluxations exist within the spinal column, your muscles begin to work harder and faster than they should to maintain the constant fight of gravity.  Your body is always attempting to right itself and make sure the eyes are level to go throughout your day.   Ideally, our bones stack up one upon the other: the head rests directly on top of the spine, which sits directly over the pelvis, which sits directly over the knees and ankles. Posture is on the outside of the body and we know that it’s the inside that counts.  It’s the inside of the body that heals, adapts, and makes corrections.   The body craves alignment. Making good structural corrections will lead to the proper posture.

Misdiagnosed And Living With The Aftermath…

Find The Cause!

The great challenge of understanding the body is listening to what it needs.  Signs or symptoms that the body presents are ways that the brain communicates that dysfunction is occurring internally.  No one was born to be sick or riddled with chronic ailments in the body. Oftentimes, people will be diagnosed with a label or some form of condition that just so happens to “fit” what they are experiencing.  All too often people are misdiagnosed or even over diagnosed with label upon label just because their experiences fit the textbook norm of that diagnosis. Instead of accepting a false label or going down multiple rabbit holes why not trace your “effects” back to the cause.

The Cause Behind The Label

Your super information highway, a.k.a the Central Nerve System (CNS), controls every function and action  you experience in life. It does this by creating and replenishing the body via its building blocks…tissue cells.  Tissue cells make up organs, muscles, ligaments, tendons and everything in your body. When the CNS experiences dysfunction within the spinal column via a subluxation (misalignment creating nerve pressure), the specific spinal nerve will lose its normal tone.  Over time, when a subluxation exists uncorrected, the vital organs that are supposed to be properly supplied will receive more messages than they should or not enough. This will be classified as HYPER (more than) or HYPO (less than). This can relate to GI problems. Hypersensitivity would lead to IBS as hypo-sensitivity would lead to constipation.

Regardless of the label that you receive, the nerve is still not in proper tone which creates dysfunction in the CNS leading to damaged tissue cells.   Tissue cells, as a result, will become plagued and over time the body will produce symptoms. Standardized tests might produce findings or might not. What they show might not help you.  What you are prescribed to take to combat the symptoms might produce other symptoms by destroying perfectly healthy tissue cells. Find the cause by addressing the CNS.

Ever Hear Of A Spine Transplant?

Ever Hear Of A Spine Transplant?

Have you ever heard of a spinal transplant?  The answer should and will be NO. However, our society consistently leans toward that kind of answer.   Let’s cut, snip, stab, and basically remove, fuse or bolt together anything that is not doing what it should be.  Once something wears out or is no longer working like it did when we were 18, we automatically lean toward replacing it.  We live in a one and done type world. What happened to the art of maintaining and taking care what you have? Now enter the words… hard work.

Why Are The Spinal Bones So Important?

The spinal bones not only protect your spinal cord but they also have just enough space between them to allow two nerves to exit out to each side of your body.  These nerves control, coordinate and transmit messages to the rest of your body so it can accomplish EVERY action in your daily life. That means every tissue cell in your body is controlled by your nerves through your spinal cord from the BRAIN!   Henry Winsor, M.D. said it best to understand the importance of spinal health – “Organs supplied by impinged nerves exhibit pathological changes and the more serious the impingement the more serious the damage.”  What’s the takeaway from this statement?  You are able to objectively judge someone’s health based on their spinal structure and integrity of their curves.  Healthy spine = healthy central nerve system = healthy body.

Will My Spine Wear Out?

What happens when you neglect your teeth?  Eventually you will lose what you do not take care of.  With the bones of the spine you are not going to “lose” them and they won’t fall out like your teeth.  What will happen is the disc spacing in-between the vertebrae will become less than it was. Even with a healthy spine the disc spacing is going to wear down.  That is NORMAL wear and tear in a human body. The spine will even lose a couple inches. It’s inevitable. It’s the way we are designed. However, when spine health is NEGLECTED  spine DEGENERATIVE changes occur. Degeneration is NOT normal. With degeneration, your spine will begin to wear out at an exceedingly faster pace. This means your health begins to wear out at a faster pace.  Take care of your spine. It’s the only health you have.
