The topic of inflammation is interesting at best. Often times we are bombarded with the newest and latest ways to reduce chronic inflammation within the body, or we succumb to over the counter medicine that is “designed” to reduce inflammation. While exercise and diet are congruent with a healthy lifestyle, external influences will often side-step the true root cause of why the inflammation is present in the first place. Look well to your spine first and foremost.

Basically we know that inflammation is the body’s innate response to counter a response or heal tissue. Your body does this to aid recovery naturally. When the inflammation ensues for an extended period of time, the brain defends itself with alarm messages to create an awareness for action steps that the body needs to take. Think of it this way: your brain decides you should experience an alarm if it believes there is tissue damage or the potential for tissue damage.

Your brain relays these alarm messages through the spinal column, collectively the brain and spinal column, or central nerve system (CNS). This is important because if the brain perceives there is a problem, a healthy highway of information is needed so the spinal nerves transferring all the data back and fourth can constantly feed the brain information.

The tissue cell is where your inflammation occurs. The tissue cell is the smallest organ in the body and maintains the welfare of the whole body. The tissue cells make your organs, and the organs are to serve the “organism,”which is you. When the CNS perceives to generate an immune response to the tissue cell, inflammation is the catalyst/spearhead to generate a response for the tissue. Remember this is a NATURAL occurrence, the CNS is protecting you to keep the function of the body.

Too often we take for granted the CNS and the constant changes it undergoes innately to keep us healthy naturally. Keeping your brain-body communication as accurate as possible is the key to eliminating inflammation at its root. Keeping Your Plants Healthy

At this point in time, in our crazy mixed up world, it feels we must get back to the basics of life. So, got any plants? How simple can it be? Do you know how to properly care for them? Even though it’s winter and spring is a ways away, we need to prepare properly for the months to come.

It sounds trivial, yet in reality it’s a continual state of preparation. When I take care of my plants (particularly my vegetables; flowers are fine but eating my veggies is a delicious treat), I realize that external factors are important and need to occur to keep my plants “looking” healthy. Factors such as adequate sunshine, enough water, proper spacing, and good air flow.

While these external influences are important for the plant to survive, if left all alone these external influence would not be a constant. One constant variable that is often overlooked is the soil. Many say that if you take care of the soil, regardless of the external influences, the plant will not only grow, it will thrive.

So taking care of the soil takes care of the plant, regardless of the external influences that comes its way. This is a philosophy that is based on science, backed by pure instinct. To better understand, we can switch the word soil to mean that of host (our bodies) and instead of external influences you could use seeds or external harm. “Take care of the host and it will be impervious to any harmful seed thrown its way.” (Paraphrasing the highly remarked French scientist Claude Bernard.)

Can You Hear US Now?

Healthy actions are habits that you can create for yourself by implementing the appropriate steps. Yes, we understand it’s the New Year and it seems cliché to do something NEW. Guess what? Your “health” isn’t new, and many are just becoming more aware of it based on the year 2020.

Remember the Verizon commercials where the character would ask, “Can You Hear Me Now?” Your health does the same thing when you are living in a subluxated state.

A subluxation is a misalignment within the spinal column, creating interference between the brain and body communication, thus altering your body’s ability to adapt to the external environment. One cannot function at an optimal potential when living in a subluxated state.

Specific adjustments eliminate the interference and enable the body to communicate effectively . Your body begins to tell your brain “Can You Hear US now”! You become more aware of what is happening, as well as becoming in proper tune with your surroundings.

When addressing health, look to the spine first and foremost. If you want to create new habits such as exercise and diet, yes those are fundamental truths that work. However, don’t forget your “healthcare” stems from the beginning which created all, which is the central nerve system. If You Don’t Know About It Does It Matter?

Ignorance, neglect, or just a general idea of not actually knowing. Just a few reasons a person might be unhealthy. But where  does your health “come from?” It’s like a motor vehicle that runs and does not give you any cues to check your engine, rotate your tires, change your oil, etc. If you didn’t perform these actions regularly your vehicle would stop running.  What about your health? Do we just ignore the innate wisdom of the body to keep us going on a day to day basis without any routine check-ups?

Contrary to current models, health does not come in the form of a pill, a shot, or any other external influence. Your belief system will secure your future and make you separate and distinct from others.  Your course is set based on your beliefs.  These beliefs should stand the test of time and will be challenged with the “latest and greatest.”

Take, for instance, our first president. George Washington, in his terminal state, was bled on a routine basis, which was a leading factor to his demise. This “bad blood” theory gained some initial momentum much like lobotomies, electroshock therapy, and other instant fixes.

The founder of Osteopathy (Osteopaths) A.T. Still said it best in 1899 “The brain of man was God’s drugstore and had in it all liquid, drugs, lubricating oils, opiates, acids, and anti-acids, and every quality of drugs that the wisdom of God thought necessary for human happiness and health.”

Stress impacts all of us on a regular basis, automatically altering health. The good news is that Gonstead Chiropractors are trained to monitor and keep your Central Nerve System free of interference that you begin to build up over a weekly basis. Aging Is Not A Disease.

The older we become, the more marketing material we receive about our “declining health.” While it can be true that the older we get the more difficult it is to maintain optimum health, there are other things to consider. Think of it this way: the human body is the first “machine” ever created. All other machines take notice to the human body.

We need to get over the false narrative that aging is a metaphysical “thing” and that  everyone will be plagued with it. Let’s first establish that aging is NOT A DISEASE. We can all agree that there is a big difference between a living body and a dead body. And we are lectured  by the medical community, drug companies, western medicine, govt..etc) who make money off the sick that there is nothing we can do about getting “old”.

Research can actually get things wrong! Take, for instance, spinal degeneration. This degeneration is not caused by “natural” aging. Spinal degeneration is due to a subluxation (a misalignment within the spine, altering the body’s  behavior to adequately adapt to external stressors). As a result, the disc space does not get proper movement and becomes malnourished. Furthermore, when the body lives in a subluxated state, over time the disc tissue cell becomes “replaced” with bone tissue cell.

You see, once a disc tissue cell is changed to a bone tissue cell, the process cannot be reversed. It’s not normal, but it’s not due to aging, because there are young people with spinal degeneration that has accumulated over time, unnoticed and unchecked. The good news is that this is not a DISEASE. When a subluxation occurs it happens in two segments. If spinal degeneration was actually a “disease” as is falsely claimed, then the entire body would be riddled with decay.

Believe in yourself and take care of your body! Aging can be beautiful if one makes good choices and does it well.  Chiropractic keeps the body as a properly functioning machine by accommodating and making sure the central nerve system is in harmony with every part of the body. “In a state of health, people are shut off from the invasion of germs”- Louis Pasteur.

The obvious answer is that your health is invaluable.  You must take care of your health because your life depends on it. Putting aside the pandemic, the United States is not a healthy place. It’s no secret that in the US we take our health for granted and have been influenced to rely on drugs/pills/medicine.  

According to an article published in Fortune magazine, the cost of healthcare in 2018 in the United States hit an astronomical 3.65 trillion.  This spending represents 11,212 per person. That’s every man, woman, and child in the united states.  In fact the U.S. spends more money per capita that any other country in the world yet we are ranked at number 29 in the world for health.  (Source: 2020, Gentempo)

Now enter a philosophy that deals with health and the study of what causes people to be healthy: Chiropractic.  Sure, there are many different forms of healing and preventative measures one can take to be healthy.  We believe that Chiropractic is the most cost effective form of “health care” that seeks to give practical solutions for all. One could ask, “Are we one of those Chiropractic offices that seek the cause of dis-ease?” The answer is “YES!” And we would go on to state that Chiropractic is not simply limited to back pain, neck spasm, “emergency clinic,” and the like.

Notice how the phrase “health care” applies to Chiropractic.  Chiropractic is safe, non-addictive, and is proven over and over again to prevent the body from being in a chronic state of disease.  
If you confuse medicine for “health care,” you are missing the picture.  We are in this predicament of taking care of more and more sick people because our society believes in the idea of taking a pill for any diagnosis, and this is proving not to work.  

The best way you can help the sick is not to be one of them.  How do you do this?  Prevention. Actually taking your health into your own hands and working on it!  Everyday, every week, every month.  One might say it requires hard work, and being healthy is a full time job. Truer words have never been written. Trust The Doctor Too Much?

Trust. Such an interesting word that we have a tendency to throw around without any merit or justification behind it. There are fundamental “Trusts” that we accept at a very young age, such as trusting our parents to look after us when we are young and developing. However, it seems the older we become, the less often we actually truly trust people. Now throw in the phrase, “Trust Me I’m A Doctor..” and hopefully your eyebrows will begin to rise up.

When our office meets a new patient, we often hear, “I dont trust doctors.” It’s a true statement that has validity. Just because someone has a title or letters after their name does not justify that trust should automatically be implied. Just as if someone holding office wants to be trusted, it does not mean that trust is automatically implied.
