‘Attitude’ Adjustment

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, Chiropractic Myths, kids chiropractic | No Comments

“Is there an attitude adjustment that you can do to change their behavior? “asks the loving mother. This question is jokingly put forth more often than not in the office.  Not just in the Chiropractic office, this is a popular pop phrase used in our day to day lives.  More often than not though, this phrase is often associated towards a child who is “having an off day.”  In reality the science does support the “concept” of such a thing.  Lets dive in and see how the brain influences the spinal column and visa versa when it comes to emotions.

By finding subluxations within the spinal column and adjusting them, the brain is better able to interpret data and make more sense of the body’s surroundings.  We can say this due to the literature that supports every time you receive a specific adjustment, two parts of the brain become instantly better equipped to make more accurate decisions in your health.  The left pre-frontal cortex and the cerebellum.

Consider this – the amygdala (often called the emotional brain) during times of stress sends an alert to the right hypothalamus and then down the spinal column to trigger the adrenal glands (activating your fight or flight).  Some children (and adults :)) often use this quite frequently, making their feelings overwhelming and not fully making sense.

By influencing how your spinal column functions through adjusting subluxations, you can override the right side brain of fight or flight and utilize the left side of the brain to better perceive your emotions and, more importantly, your response to stressors by influencing the left pre-frontal cortex.  Why?  The left pre-frontal cortex is in charge of memory, emotions, impulse control, and social interaction among other things.  Sort of bring a whole new meaning the “concept” of an “Attitude Adjustment.”

Structure Over Posture

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, chiropractic adjustment, kids chiropractic, pregnancy | No Comments

The presence of good posture is a missing trait among the growing populas today that often begins at a very young age. We can blame technology, the newest gizmos or maybe just a lack of knowledge. True to form with our society, anything that is often hard to do or misunderstood is saturated with quick fixes, gadgets, or misleading objects that are for sale to “fix your posture.” Instead of looking for the outward source, why not pay attention to what’s  inside?

Structure. The spinal column at an early age forms its outlook for life beginning with our “tummy time” and then into our crawling stages. At this time the three distinct curvatures of the spine (cervical, thoracic, and lumbar) begin to take shape, enabling  our body to be able to withstand the constant battle of gravity with biomechanical sound curvatures in the spine. The rest of the body takes shape as a result of the spinal column.

Typically when you encounter a daily event, activity, or engage in repetitive behavior over and over again, the spinal column is unable to properly adapt and overcome a spinal subluxation (misalignment within the spinal column creating nerve interference.) This ensues over time. This subluxation will create chaos in the musculoskeletal system, creating an overproduction of muscle imbalances for years.

The subluxation will create inadquecies in proper muscle firing, thus leading to a constant battle with improper posture. Over time when a subluxation is left uncorrected, the structure of the spine begins to change. This is something you can actually see and is called improper posture. The structure of the spinal column is hidden from plaint sight, yet will appear in the posture that we exhibit in our daily lives.

Maintaining good posture is a important. Why not address the reason posture is even a talking point first by focusing on your spinal column which protects the most important system in the human body, the central nerve system (CNS). With proper coordination to the CNS, the particular system—the musculoskeletal system—which is often left to blame for “bad posture,” begins to work effortlessly and with normal tone to make sure your “butt is out, back straight, and chin out” all the time.

March Of Spines

Marching towards your health goals begins with owning the certainty of what you would like to achieve. Defining these health goals helps retain focus on performing positive actions over and over again. Take, for instance, the path deemed to be “best” to sustain a healthy life.

To be “healthy,” we are often persuaded by external stimuli that have given someone else some relief. While changing and maintaining health may begin with a transitional day, for instance, New Year’s Day, being present in health is a constant march that requires your time and energy on a routine basis.

Exercise…check. Food…check. Mindset…check. Spinal care….often left un-checked. Your spine protects the most crucial system in the human body, the central nerve system (CNS). Think of your spine as the body of your vehicle and the CNS as the engine, which is necessary for your vehicle to run properly. Without constant check-ups to your engine and regular care the engine begins to suffer, thus leading to early problems that could have been prevented.

The march towards health is a ever changing game. Being healthy and not healthy is not a black and white picture. In between these two states there are several different shades of gray that you must transition past in obtaining whichever state you would like to be in. You are either marching towards the health state or away from it, either way you must march to your own beat, towards your own goals.

The Chiropractic adjustment is the one thing that fine tunes your engine to do exactly what it needs to do when you need it most…naturally and specifically. The great news is that not all engines are the same and with our system of Gonstead Chiropractic this enables us to perfect your mechanizing to generate results that allow you to perform the march of health on a consistent basis without limitations.

Kids Chiropractic: It’s Not New

By | Chiropractic Myths, kids chiropractic | No Comments

Did you know that currently 54% of children in the US suffer from a chronic health condition?  1 in 6 children have a developmental delay/disability, 1 in 11 children have ADHD, 1 in 12 children have asthma, 1 in 36 have autism and 1 in 285 will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 20.

While severe subluxation resulting in nerve damage may be clinically obvious at birth, more frequently the trauma remains subclinical with symptoms arising at a later time. These symptoms include, but are not limited to, irritability, colic, failure-to-thrive syndromes, and those syndromes associated with lowered immune response. (Clinical Guidelines)

The true cause of disease lies within the body.  Taking care of your family’s health should be a priority. Your lives depend on it! Chiropractic focuses on being preventative rather reactive. Instead of waiting for something to arise, prepare and act now.

Complicated deliveries represent a higher risk to the child suffering spinal damage during the birth process.  Any condition that arises to change the normal birth process frequently results in subluxation at the level of greatest stress. (Clinical Guidelines)

With this defensive attitude, that externals are to blame for illness, it is no wonder that many individuals are chronically worried about their health. “If people believe they live in a germ filled, polluted environment and that they are weak because of inherited psychological and physical deficiencies, they will perceive themselves as helpless and victimized when they become ill.” – Dennis T. Jaffe, Ph.D

The brain that is created upon conception makes every living tissue, organ, cell, and gland that the body needs. Collectively the central nerve system regulates every function in your life. Wouldn’t it be wise to make sure this master system was free of any interference to regulate your child’s overall health and well-being? Chiropractic is for all, and to serve all.

Saving Money On Your Health

By | ADHD, Benefits of Chiropractic, chiropractic adjustment, inflammation, kids chiropractic | No Comments

Saving money on your health makes sense, right? Fortunately, it’s nothing new. Not a ‘quick’ sale, gimmick, fad, or trend that someone is trying to sell you. In all honesty it really comes down to your intentions that you want to make into health forming habits. Now, it just so happens that we are health care professionals – Chiropractors. Our entire basis is the study of health and what causes people to LIVE.

Chiropractic is a philosophy, a science and an art of things NATURAL; a system of adjusting the segments of the spinal column by hand only, for the correction of the cause of dis-ease. What limits health, what causes the body to be in a state of dis-ease (which means your body is not at ease)? The answer is a vertebral subluxation. This is a misalignment within the spinal column that occludes the connection between your brain and body. This hinders the TISSUE cell from adapting to the stresses of life. The tissue cell being the building blocks of everything you do!

Saving money on your health starts and ends with your central nerve system (CNS). How come? If you do not take care of your CNS it’s pretty clear to say it will not take care of you. Ponder this thought process for a while. Take the word “allergy”. Interestingly enough that a 45 year old presents to a Chiropractic office that just “developed” an allergen. Yet they have been living their entire life “allergy” free? Safe to say that something compromised the integrity of their immune system thus rendering this person more stress vulnerable to symptoms occurring.

Now, one would say that nothing is promised. You can eat all your vegetables, workout everyday, have little no body fat, take care of your CNS and still have a heart attack or develop cancer. True. Your quality of life is how you make it. Chiropractic ensures that you CNS is optimal in every season of life.

Chiropractic is premiums small and dividends large. It is health insurance to the max. If you do not take care of your health now, you will have to pay for it later.

How Would You Define Being Healthy?

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, chiropractic adjustment, Chiropractic Myths, kids chiropractic | No Comments

Where does health come from? This question itself is bigger than the short paragraphs that we can provide you with. In order to understand health you must understand the body and the ca pabilities it holds. The current paradigm of “health” that most people assimilate with was based in 1948 post World War II and is still the current model.

With this general concept of what health is we started to become a society based on palliative care and started to turn away from the idea that the body could and would heal from within. Palliative care is based upon relieving the signs and symptoms without dealing with the actual cause of what CAUSED the signs and symptoms in the first place. Why do two people drink from a fountain and only one gets “sick”?

1948 World Health Organization definition of health: “A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. So, just because you don’t have a disease makes you healthy? Far from the truth. Every day you have the choice to make healthy decisions or unhealthy decisions that will alter and change the trajectory of your bodies ability to ADAPT to the stressors you place upon it.

If you start to take up rowing, your hands begin to blister from the new repetition that your body places upon it. Instead of ‘treating’ the blisters with medicine and remedies your body is designed to callus over the blisters and adapt in accordance with the stressors that you place upon your hands.

In Chiropractic, we are solely based upon the adaptability paradigm. We not only have a philosophy of what health is, the science has been there and still continues to support the TRUE definition of health. The bodies ability to remain healthy is innately within all of us and at the center of this health is the central nerve system. Every organ in the body is connected to the one under your hat – B.J. Palmer. Change your paradigm…change your health.

Judging Your Health Much?

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, kids chiropractic | No Comments

How does one judge their health? Most of the time we judge our health on how we ‘feel’ on a day to day basis. WE are a day to day society. We forget the BIG picture that the only easy day was yesterday. Longevity and proper CONTINUAL maintenance is key. Most of the time people judge their health based on certain criteria, external influences that become important because we deem them so, which is a lie. If you really think about it, just because a person might “look” good or perform a certain physical feat doesn’t mean they are healthy. The person who has six-pack abs, runs marathons, is allergic to every type of food, has constant GI problems…and the list goes on, would you consider to be ‘healthy’?

·  How we look in the mirror (any wrinkles)

·  How much we weigh on the scale

·  How long we have been on a certain “diet trend”

·  How many push-ups we can do

·  How small our double-chin is

·  How many signs and symptoms we DON’T have

To judge your health first and foremost begins with looking where your health begins. We can accomplish an accurate assessment of your health via x-ray analysis. By visualizing the spinal bones we are able to access the health of the Central Nerve System (it is your health). The age old adage that ” Beauty lies within” is so relevant to us. We assume the term is for dating and meeting the love of your life. Just as well, the beauty of your spinal column will dictate your overall health and well-being.

By removing any source of irritation to the Central Nerve System the body will be healthy and the spinal column properly aligned. You live your life through your Central Nerve System. By keeping the spine aligned your Central Nerve System has an accurate grip on your health and better able to adapt to the stressors you place it on. Look within the body for health.

The Truth About Kids Chiropractic

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, chiropractic adjustment, kids chiropractic | No Comments

The truth about kids and Chiropractic care…it’s safe, natural, normal, and effective. There it is. There is the “BIG” secret. We couldn’t keep our anticipation back and make you read this entire blog without just spilling the beans. Kids and Chiropractic care is not a new thing! Not only do Chiropractors preach the importance of spinal check-ups for kids, so do medical doctors. ”Every newborn should receive a neck and spine examination and a Chiropractic adjustment if necessary. Is that idea too difficult to accept?”- Lendon Smith, M.D. Pediatrician.

Unfortunately, media portrays Chiropractic patients as a 45 year old males who lifted something wrong and “throw their backs out.” Sure, Chiropractic care can definitely help these type of people. Just imagine if this 45 year old was under Chiropractic care before he turned 45!

The central nerve system is the master control system. It made, regulates, and controls every system in the body. So, it is safe to say that your body knows what it needs to do. Subluxations (misalignment’s within the spinal column placing undo stress upon a nerve) often manifest early in life unnoticed and uncorrected creating dysfunction within the body. Kids won’t express their subluxations as the “pain” we know. They manifest in symptoms of the central nerve system not functioning correctly. These can be ear infections, constipation, colic, bed wetting, allergies, etc etc. These are painful!

When we get an early start on health by checking the function of the central nerve system we are primed for a life of health. Health comes from the inside-out. ”Subluxation interferes with the body’s mental impulses, altering body function, lowering tissue resistance, and making the body vulnerable to disease.”- Dr. Fred Barge. Many parents report an improvement in their child’s quality of life after beginning routine, family chiropractic care. When a subluxation exists for a period of time the body does not function optimally. Do whatever you can to keep your child’s central nerve system working its best. One way to do this is to remove any source of irritation by keeping your spine healthy and aligned.

Health Care Vs Health Insurance

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, kids chiropractic, pregnancy | No Comments

Health care vs health insurance. What’s the difference between the two? Just about everything. Health care is something that you perform on a day to day basis. It’s easy to be healthy and just on the opposite side it’s easy to be unhealthy. The choices you make are not from genetics. Health care comes with the choices that you make to better yourself and take time for self-love. Being healthy is not something you should take lightly, its hard-work and we typically attempt to gain our health when something bad has happened. In our society nowadays the phrase goes as such, “Young men in life avoids his health to acquire wealth, while later in life will spend his wealth to acquire his health.”

Health care become the actions that you perform on a routine basis. Take for instance, Chiropractic check-ups. You live your life through your central nerve system (CNS). Every human experience you have is controlled, coordinated, and processed through your CNS. Chiropractic care seeks to make sure your body is free of any interference to the CNS and you are functioning at an ideal state by adjusting the spinal column which protects the CNS. The beginning of the disease process begins with postural distortions – Hans Selye, M.D.

Health care is hard-work yet in the long-run is always worth it. Consuming the right foods, taking time for daily exercise, and making sure your thoughts are healthy… is hard-work. These are just a few to name some, yet it really gets down to the choices that you must make to make sure “Health Care” becomes part your daily routine.

Health insurance is really a misnomer. Typically, people use their health insurance when they have an accident, injury, or trauma. Which all these incidents sound really bad and just maybe your insurance will cover your costs (really should be called trauma insurance). Health insurance is not looking after your overall health and well-being. Preventative steps are not taken into account to make sure that your health insurance actually keeps you healthy. No one buys health insurance and then immediately becomes healthy. You have to perform active health care to stay healthy.

Brush Your Spine

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, chiropractic adjustment, Chiropractic Myths, kids chiropractic | No Comments

Brush your spine ever? Hopefully not. Just a simple analogy to further educate the importance of active spinal care. Think of when a tooth begins to hurt and produces symptoms of a cavity. Just because the pain started today does not mean that the problem just ‘showed up.’ If you neglect your teeth they will not only show it from an appearance stand point, yet also from a dysfunctional problem when tooth problems begin. If you do not take care of your teeth they have a tendency to fall out…bummer. If you do not take care of you central nerve system health problems begin to arise.

Your spine protects the most important structure in the entire body: the central nerve system. Regular chiropractic check-ups prevent the spine from breaking down and creating subluxations (misalignment within the spinal column placing undo stress upon the central nerve system). Believe it or not the spine and central nerve system are vastly more important than your teeth. Just because you cannot physically see your spine like your teeth, does not mean that it’s less important. On the contrary. There is a reason the central nerve system is protected by ‘spinal bones’. To protect!

The ‘breaking down’of the spine exists through subluxations. When you do not maintain spinal hygiene the body is not able to properly adapt which increases your susceptibility of subluxations, spinal decay, and health problems which ensue with improper communication between the brain and body. Subluxations are the physical representation of symptoms. It’s not that a symptom is a subluxation: sublxuations produce symptoms due to the distortion of a spinal bone, placing undo stress upon a single nerve fiber thus creating a state of dis-ease within the nerve system. As a result, tissue cells that the nerve controls will not become adequately supplied and functioning at 100%. Subsequently, health problems manifest.

You don’t have to ‘brush your spine’ to be healthy. You just need to take care of the things that matter most. A healthy inside results in a healthy body on the outside.
