Why Specific Adjustments Matter

Why do specific adjustments matter? When you’re paying bills, you want to pay the specific amount. When your aiming for a specific grade point average you want to hit specific results to achieve your intended results. Specificity is critical to just about every part of life, particularity when it comes to your health and well-being via Chiropractic care.

In Gonstead Chiropractic, specificity is what sets us apart. To make critical and accurate spinal adjustments to your central nerve system, the specificity must be obtained through x-ray analysis and multiple cross analysis to confirm what needs to be done. We use the word “adjustment” when a specific and dynamic thrust is applied to a subluxation (misalignment within the spinal column creating dysfunction within the spinal column) that is created when one’s body fails to adapt to the stressors placed on it. For Chiropractic care there is no one size fits all and everyone gets the same thing, if it was, then that would be called a spinal manipulation.

The opposite of an adjustment is a spinal manipulation. Wording is drastically important to know the difference between a specific Chiropractic adjustment and a manipulation.

·  A Chiropractic adjustment is specific, accurate, and a calculated thrust into a particular part of the spinal column that is warranted to a specific subluxation based on thorough STRUCTURAL analysis via x-rays and other criteria in the system.

·  A manipulation is a distasteful experiment to one’s body to try and create some sort of change with no knowledge to the location or direction of the spinal subluxation.

The structural factor that a subluxation creates is paramount to understanding how it impacts one’s overall health. The structural factor and how to correct it needs a physical approach, not a chemical equation. If you have a physical problem, you need a physical solution.

Freedom Of Health

This time of year is always very exciting. Fireworks, friends, family, parades we will indeed celebrate to our fullest potential. We live in a special place where we have freedom to act and think however we please, without hindrance or restraining order. Nothing is sweeter than Freedom! Like the America’s departing from the Monarch of Britain, we can depart from the restraints that are holding us back from freedom in health. Our true potential awaits! Chiropractic had not been established in 1776, however we now offer a better way for you and your family to achieve freedom in health. We can all agree that health is not valued until it has been lost, laying in the hospital bed, sick at home, or watching a loved one suffer. This negative experience begins the typical model of traditional medicine: Crisis occurs, and we respond re-actively, due to the circumstances, over and over again in a continual cycle. Were you or your family members just unlucky or is there something else going on? Why did Jimmy get sick, but Timmy did not? True health cannot be found in a bottle, vile, or anything external. Health is found within.

Your Nerve System, the most important structure in your body controls and mediates the healing process of every cell, every tissue, and every organ. The reason why Jimmy got sick and Timmy did not, is solely their body’s ability to adapt in an environment. The key player that causes the Nerve System to have a hindrance or restraining order is a subluxation. The subluxation reduces our freedom of health because it places undo stress on the most important structure in our body. Thus we lose our ability to be our best and most expressive self. With the liberation of these subluxations through specific Gonstead chiropractic adjustments, the Nerve System is freed and expression is restored. In life you are either constantly heading towards sickness or heading towards better health. When we observe our health with an ability to adapt to our environment, instead of fearing the unknown timing of a crisis, we can work proactively on your health. This way of life results in achieving true freedom in health and a break in the continual cycle. We were designed to be dynamic, limitless, and free. We thank you for seeking your fullest potential and better health.

Time To Trade In Your Spine

Steve Jobs first introduced the Macintosh computer in 1984.  It was the first commercially successful personal computer ever at that time.  Since 1984 there has been numerous modifications, upgrades, and changes to make the personal computer even better! Technology constantly is changing and improving to better serve the public masses.  Your body in fact is a computer.  The central nerve system (CNS) is the master controller of all parts of your body, and is constantly adapting to the surrounding environment that you place it under.

Taking the time to ensure that your CNS is optimally functioning helps confirm that your body is able to adapt, modify, and continually function at its optimal potential. This is vitally important due to the fact that you cannot upgrade this version of your body for the newest and latest model. Your version is based on your birth. The longer you have this computer the longer it becomes outdated. You have to take care of what you are given to make sure your model is up to date in the best way that it can be. Self care comes at the cost of looking within the “computer”, the inner parts are what keep the outside functioning and looking pristine.

Instead of waiting to take care of a problem that occurs within your computer, why wouldn’t you want to have regular check-ups to ensure optimal speed, data collection, and firing on all cylinders. When you look to health, look to the spine first and foremost. The chiropractic approach to health care considers the many lifestyle factors, such as exercise, diet, alignment, relaxation, rest and your environment, that affect your health which directly create a positive or negative impact on your CNS. It’s up to you to start making healthy choices today.

Healthy Central Nerve System = Healthy Immune System

By | Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

The master control system (central nerve system, CNS) directly coordinates and controls every other system in the human body. Second to the CNS in importance of keeping our bodies in optimal health is the immune system. The immune system is our body’s natural defense against foreign invaders such as toxins, pollutants, bacteria, germs and other external stressors. Your body is constantly on guard to defend against such stressors and needs to be in an ideal state for the immune system to function properly.

The main way the CNS and the immune system communicate is via chemical messengers which are released by nerve cells. The CNS affects the immune system both directly and indirectly. The direct effect is via communication of nerve cells with white blood cells; while the indirect effect is through blood-borne neurotransmitters and hormones.

What inhibits your immune system response to effectively defend against stressors? Improper dysfunction within the CNS will create internal interference between every system that the CNS coordinates. Subluxation (misalignment within the spinal column) will create undo stress upon a single nerve fiber creating internal chaos and improper coordination. When a subluxation exists the first system in your body that becomes weakened will be the immune system and your immune responses.

A subluxation impedes the CNS’s ability to properly coordinate and effectively control all other systems in the human body. A subluxaion is stress on your immune system. This in turn will deplete the immune system’s ability to properly adapt and heal due to the chronic inflammation placed upon the body via a subluxation. With chronic inflammation the immune system adversely is weakened and not properly able to coordinate neurological and biological communication, which decreases your immune cell production and leads to chronic sickness.

The foundation of health begins with a properly functioning CNS. It has been demonstrated that balancing and maximizing the coordination of the CNS is key to optimal health and immune system function.

5 Components Of A Subluxation

By | Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

Breaking down a subluxation begins with the context of the word. “Sub” is derived from “less than” or “under” and “luxation” stemming from luxate which is to “dislocate”. So the proper meaning of subluxation is less than a full dislocation. Often times you may hear people say that they have a “pinched nerve” or they have “thrown their back out” which is the farthest thing from the truth. They are only expressing one component (muscular component) of the subluxation. Let’s break down the subluxation to gather the real insight.

The skeletal component: when a subluxation occurs the vertebrae above and below will be involved. The actual subluxation will create uneven displacement on the disc (the cushion in between the vertebrae) creating a bio-mechanical shift. Structurally, think of it as a kink in a bicycle chain, eventually everything becomes troubled as a result.

The muscular component: since nerves control muscles that establish proper position of vertebrae they are an integral part of the subluxation. When a nerve becomes irritated the surrounding muscle will become overexcited and inflamed as a process. People don’t feel their bones misaligned, they feel the pain in muscles.

The soft tissue component: the subluxation will affect the surrounding tendons, ligaments and blood supply to which the nerve controls. The soft tissues can become stretched or scarred leaving the spine with either chronic instability or restriction.

The degeneration component: this is a result of neglecting the subluxation. When a subluxation exists uncorrected for years degeneration and decay begins within the spine. Mistakenly referred to as “normal” is the farthest thing from the truth.

The neurological component: the most important factor involved with a subluxation. When a subluxation places undo stress upon a nerve the result is that all the tissues fed by that specific nerve become distorted from the brain and are unable to function normally. Overtime this will lead to a whole host of other conditions (signs and symptoms). Think of this as your organs, glands, and tissue cells receiving poor cell phone reception from the brain because they cannot accurately understand what to do.

How Long Does Chiropractic Care Last?

By | Benefits of Chiropractic | No Comments

Great question!  The age old adage is that when you start seeing a Chiropractor you will have to keep going.  Why?  This statement has merit yet without the proper context seems like insanity.  Chiropractic is a natural approach to health focusing specifically and solely on the central nerve system (the master control system).  Without an optimal functioning central nerve system health itself cannot manifest.  All the systems of the human body are controlled, regulated, and coordinated everyday via the central nerve system.  SAFE to say that health comes from within the body!

A Chiropractor is a trained professional that utilizes hands-on adjustments. We are the only profession skilled in naturally finding and correcting dysfunction (subluxations) within the central nerve system via adjustments. Now, this does not answer the question how long Chiropractic care lasts, yet it is sufficient to understand our role.

How long Chiropractic care lasts is ultimately up the patient.  It’s similar to saying “how long would I like to stay healthy?”  Chiropractic care is not an ER visit.  While some do utilize Chiropractic in this fashion, you will only ever receive ER (quick fix) results with your care rather than lasting effects. It’s basically saying that only 1 time a month you will eat some sort of vegetable to keep you strong and vibrant.  Does it work?  It doesn’t cause you any harm.  Chiropractic care is a natural, drug-less approach to health and your overall well-being.  The care is adapted to each patient and how their body either requires more or less. We have a pharmacy inside us that is absolutely exquisite, it makes the right medicine for the precise time, for the right target organ – with no side effects – Deepak Chopra.  The Law of supply and demand.

Think of it this way.  When you visit a medical doctor for a symptom you typically receive a medication.  Present a symptom and we will present you with a pill.  The purpose of the pill is to create a chemical imbalance within the body thus masking the symptom. How long should you be on the pill?  Maybe a couple of weeks or until the symptoms resolve.  Did your body heal and adapt? NO!  So, when the symptoms show up again a week later because you are off the pill you should probably go back on it…and for a longer period of time this round.  So, when do we ever truly stop the cascade of events?  Why not incorporate a natural, drug less approach to health and your overall well-being.  The human body, when it is functioning on all cylinders, will make any chemical that it requires.  You only need to stay healthy.  How long does Chiropractic care last? You decide.  You can make time for wellness or you can make time for sickness later.

Balance Your Stress By Balancing Your Health…From The Inside

By | Benefits of Chiropractic, chiropractic adjustment, Chiropractic Myths, stress | No Comments

Balance your stress by balancing your health. Your health begins and ends within the spinal column, the central nerve system.  Recent research has demonstrated decreased adaptability of the nerve system in those who suffer from depression – Frontiers in Psychiatry, 2019. To understand the importance of the central nervous system is to understand this phrase. “You live your life through your central nerve system, every human experience you have is coordinated, processed, and controlled via your nerve system.”
A calm mind brings inner strength and self-confidence, so that’s very important for good health -Dalai Lama.

Your stress creates fight or flight. What kind of stress are we talking about? Bills, driving to work, politics, religion, depression, public speaking…etc…etc.  Break it down this way.  Have you ever felt stressed before?  Everyone should say yes. When you feel stress you typically “feel” it along the spinal pathway and the feeling comes from what the nerve controls, that being muscles, tissues, ligaments, and soft tissue. When your body has a stressful thought that continues for even a short period of time the fight or flight response is activated and the small, yet drastically important, muscles along the spinal column are basically put to sleep. This is due to the fact that specific muscle groups that are larger are required for instances of fight or flight.

When fight or flight becomes a chronic nature in your life due to the stress that you place upon it the nerves that are supposed to be controlling the tiny muscles along the spine send insufficient messages and the central nerve system is unable to properly control the body. The subluxation (misalignment in the spine creating pressure on or around a spinal nerve) ensues and creates constant dysfunction within your body.

The number one reason that people will visit a Chiropractor is due to their inability to adapt to the emotional stressors that they place upon themselves.  The good news is that after a specific adjustment a bombardment of afferent neuro-receptors flood the brain with positive activity.  Particularly to the pre-frontal cortex of the brain, which actually should be called your executive functioning sector.  The more you are able to influence the pre-frontal cortex the happier you are and the better able you are to adapt to the stressors placed on you internally and externally.  Your body is intelligent.  That’s why we work with the design of your body to improve its function.

What Do You Consider Pain To Be?

What Do You Consider Pain To Be?

What do you actually consider pain to be?  When we typically think of pain, we assume it is associated with slamming your hand in a door or some sort of injury, trauma or action that produces the sensation of discomfort.  Our culture assumes that chiropractic care is strictly for pain relief. Furthest assumption from the actual truth. The first “pain” that you might experience may not be a pain at all.   The first sign of a spinal problem is actually the first symptom you have.  A symptom being: lethargy, constipation, IBS, allergies, migraines, infertility, reflux and the list goes on and on.  Symptoms should be the first “PAIN” that is recognized. It would be easier if we ended the symptom with the word pain: lethargy pain, constipation pain, IBS pain, allergy pain, migraine pain, infertility pain, reflux pain…and so on.

Symptoms Are Pain And Pain Are Symptoms

They are one and the same.  Symptoms are pains and pains are symptoms.  Even the definition of SYMPTOM (a sign of the existence of something, especially of an undesirable situation…) states that any known symptom is painful due to the fact that it is undesirable.  Too often we simply get used to a symptom and it becomes a part of our life and we accept it.  When this happens, you are learning to live with pain. Why not learn to live freely and without the presence of dysfunction within the body.  No one was born to be sick.

Take The Road Less Traveled

The easiest way that your body will let you know that dysfunction is present will be through red flags, alarms and any other way to communicate internally that something is amiss.  Your body lets you know via SYMPTOMS. When a nerve is unable to supply the proper demand of energy to the visceral (cells, tissues, glands, organs) the body begins to “act out”. The nerve supply is hindered via a subluxation that exists and limits the potential of the visceral it is supposed to coordinate.  Address the symptoms at the root of the cause. Look to the spine for the cause.
