Disc Disc Disc, The Importance Of The Disc Within The Spine

Let’s talk about disc spacing and why it often gets left out when discussing spinal hygiene.  A disc acts as a cushion between each single vertebra and is your shock absorber for every action that you encounter in life.  Think gravity!  Not only does it function as a shock absorber, it allows proper spacing between each spinal bone to form a canal in which the spinal nerve exits through.  This canal provides protection and open communication for the spinal nerve to be a two way communicator from the brain to the body and the body to the brain.  This makes it vitally important to your overall health.

Understanding the disc space comes from utilizing x-ray analysis.  As a Gonstead chiropractor we study and analyze the x-ray films to calculate and adjust “through” the disc space.  It is the analysis of the disc and the changes it undergoes that gives the most reliable information for locating the subluxation.  To judge the level and condition of the subluxation is to access the surrounding disc space.  When a subluxation occurs it creates a displacement within the spinal column which will place stress upon the disc.  As a result the disc will produce undo stress upon the spinal nerve exiting through the canal.  This in turn will create health problems.

Subluxations that remain uncorrected will cause calcium deposits and bone spurs to occur.  Nerve and soft tissue damage will ensue.  The subluxated vertebrae will become rough and uneven on the surfaces compressing the disc and resulting in the loss of its natural cushioning.  The process accelerates causing the disc to collapse and fusion begins.  The final stage of disc degeneration from an uncorrected subluxation is when the bones are fused together creating immobility and even more severe health problems.  Keep the disc space alive and mobile with specific adjustments and you keep the channel open for the nerve to express your life through.  Happy disc = happy nerve = healthy you.

The Role Of Chiropractic In Your Life

What is the role of Chiropractic in your life?  The primary focus of Chiropractic is to simply remove those things that interfere with the body’s natural ability to heal.  Chiropractic is a science, art and philosophy about the inner workings of the human body.  By understanding how the spine and central nervous system is connected, the scene is set for exploring how dysfunction within the spine can lead to impaired health and well-being.

The key focus of Chiropractic study is to detect and correct vertebral subluxations.  In turn this will restore the healthy function of the spine and nerve system.  Remove the vertebral subluxation in order for your body to better be able to adapt and correctly function.  When a vertebral subluxation exists it will create tension and stress on the spinal nerve due to the strain of the disc in between the vertebrae.  The effects of the displacement protrudes the disc and creates stress on the spinal nerve.  Edema will create pressure on the nerve resulting in one of two things happening, stimulation or inhibition.  As a direct result the cells, tissues, glands, and organs that the nerve supplies will either be stimulated or inhibited.

Everyone should have access to chiropractic care right from birth through to the day they pass away.  I believe a lot of suffering could be prevented if this was the case.  Changing our health care system is and will be at the top forefront of a healthier lifestyle for all. There are lots of people who could stand to benefit from learning how to take better care of themselves. We know the function of the spine impacts our brain’s ability to interpret other things that are going on in and around us, an internal reality.  Effective health care begins with an accurate inner reality.  Adjusting the spine to restore optimal spinal function, actually changes the way the brain functions.  Remove any source of irritation to the central nerve system by keeping your spine healthy and aligned.

Do You Think You Are Healthy?

In this day in age every month there seems to be a new and latest health trend that we should now “try”.  Trying to be healthy does not start with creating short-cuts.  Everyone and everybody is trying to hang a shingle on the latest health categories.  Honestly you have to think about this.  There seems to be a new diet pill every month.  If someone is not selling diet pills then it’s a new exercise program specifically designed for “you”.

Let’s Get Real About Being Healthy

First of all understand how the body operates and functions.  The body works in this fashion – above, down, inside, and out.  To break this down your central nerve system (brain) sends messages down through your spinal canal.  Messages are then internally sent out via your nerves to supply your tissue cell.  The building blocks of life just happen to be the tissue cell.  In order to be healthy you must understand this fundamental principle.  You need a healthy functioning central nerve system to make sure that EVERYTHING else in the body is strong and healthy.

What Do You Perceive As Healthy?

Our media likes to depict what it means to be healthy.  Our standards are far from what it actually means.  Even so, we rationalize these variables to allow us to be satisfied with our current status.

  • Muscular body
  • Good looking hair
  • Nice skin complexion
  • Slim body
  • Or how about just “Good Looking” – This statement often is the winner.  If we see someone who looks good we automatically tend to think they have health.

Back To The Basics

First off, start with a properly functioning central nerve system.  If you have any limitations within the central nerve system you are not at your fullest potential.  Your health cannot be 100% if the central nerve system is not coordinating proper messages. No special pill, lotion, potion, or latest exercise is going to “fix” the central nerve system.  Whats next?  A properly sustainable diet is next!  Typically for people it’s eating the foods you don’t want to.  The healthy ones.  After diet comes your regular exercise routine.  What should that mean to you?  Simple, just go exercise.  Let’s not over complicate health any more.  Do the basics.

Wikipedia even tells us in plain text what the central nerve system does to maintain health. Click ME
